The Fallout universe is dead but I'm sure there will be something much better on the horizon. The genre is really too good not to make something about it. A lawless post-apoc world screams out for a decent CRPG.

What we need is a highly successful and creative Post apocalyptic film to hopefully entice people to the Genre.

I say a good Pen and Paper RPG ( D20 sytem ? ) like D&D books may work ! As for the film we need a real to ressurect the nuclear paranoia , like , E.U.A vs . Sadam Hussein or Bin Laden strikes again ! New york was nuked !

There are so many good stories or films out there that would be great for an adaption to a PA-CRPG. I think something along the lines of The Omega Man would be great to play or maybe The Postman - something with a real story. Or maybe even based on James Axler's books.

well fuck you all who think d&d sucks, you really done it now!
as an example, BG was a very fine game BG 2 also, rpg`s are noticable by a strong storyline, as for in an example FO.
in this way you guys would say FO was crap, mmmm ponder over this will you?

there are a few games of post apoc setting.

soldiers of anarchy and trash to name but a few.

remember when fallout came out there was little interest in such games. yet it was still released and still did well.

as for movies on the subject, mad max 4? that's possibly in the works.

paranoia? how about the big rock heading our way.

I saw the omega man the other day. It was okay I guess but not much happend.

D&D is okay, RPGs inspired by it do okay and are generally good. Fallout doesnt follow the rest though. where they have swords we have guns. where they have sheild we have power armour.

A game doesnt need to be Post apocalyptic to be good.

Arcanum wasn't. Arcanum was an excellent game.

A game needs a theme.
Fallout was Post-apocalyptic.
Arcanum was 19th century magic and technology.

Lionheart has a theme but isn't turn based.

The fact Fallout was good doesn't mean that anyother timeline/theme would be stupid and boring.

A D&D game can be good although the theme itself is quite dull.

Post-apocalypse may not be the most appealing of settings to the big audience, not to mention retrofuturistic post-apoc. But Fallout is a well-known and a unique title that offers something new and special to the RPG crowd. BIS and a big part of the gaming industry is waiting for a new sequel in the Fallout universe. The reason why it isn't being made at the moment is mainly because Interplay's internal problems. Many game studios have proved that doing something different can be successful. It requires a lot of things, but Fallout 3 has all the potential selling well. The circumstances at the moment aren't very favorable for a new big BIS project.

Buncha thingies.

-One: BIS does seem to want to make FO3. But nobody wants them to. And Interplay is having a lovely time with the financial sector, eh?

-Two: I'm working on a battle system fairly similar to the FO games - turn-based, and all. I will be throwing together a module for post-apocalyptic games first. If anyone knows any coders, they're welcome to use this engine for free.

-Three: Lionheart should die.

I've got nothing against Lionheart. As long as it makes money for Interplay, that brings us closer to Fallout 3. A little.

And what's all this D&D bashing? Dungeons & Dragons is a great game! Sure, PoR2 was a stinker, but that's Stormfront's fault. The rules, in both 2nd and 3rd edition are great. It's a terrific RPG, especially in PnP, which is how it was meant to be played.

I wholeheartedly agree with you on the bit about 2nd Edition AD&D. However, Third Edition is...lacking. A lot. So I don't derail the topic, I won't go into it, though if invited I might.
