worthless things in FoT

I've only been playing for a little bit, but the amount of worthless things in FoT astounds me.

charisma? you don't choose what you say, all you do is listen
luck? modifies criticals, whooptie doo
various types of ammo JHP and AP
sneak, who the hell sneaks when you can ambush and snipe? and when you have to infiltrate a building, they see you entering anyways
melee and unarmed, when are you ever that close without getting killed?
steal, why? there's plenty of ammo and stimpaks and first aid kits lying around, at the end of each level you always have more than you can carry
outdoorsman, you don't get thirsty or hungry in the desert anymore
any melee weapon
metal armor, why is the leather armor better than this?
anything that uses shotgun shells, can we say AK47? I have like 2000 rounds of 7 mm ammo by the 5th mission and like 60 shotgun shells, plus the weapons that use it are so innaccurate and have a shitty range

feel free to add anything i've missed, i'm sure there's plenty

but before i go, let me just add that despite its many flaws, i think FoT is awesome, and the CTB is the coolest thing ever, it's so awesome positioning two guys with AKs right outside a door, running a third guy in and out and blasting the shit out of the guys that come running out. it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

1 uzi - 1200 Brotherhood Scrip
30 rounds of 9 mm ammo - 250 Brotherhood Scrip
Killing the Quartermaster because of the insane sell to buy ratio - priceless

gawd, that's so cliche

Worthless things in FoT? How about FoT itself?

Yeah, I know this is completely the wrong forum for flaming Fallout: Tactics, but I just couldn't resist. Shutting up... now.

CH has nothing to do w/dialogue options in the RPGs anyway. However, the only use for CH in FoT is in allowing you access to better recruits more quickly since you get promoted more quickly. I don't recommend higher than a 6, though, since this is enough for the Leader perk as well getting you promoted almost every time you gain a level.
picollo7 wrote:luck? modifies criticals, whooptie doo
It also affects the chance you have of having a Special Random Encounter.
picollo7 wrote:various types of ammo JHP and AP
Why are those worthless? I'll take a +60% damage/-20% penetration over -11% damage/-33% penetration any day. AP also seems to score armor bypass criticals more often. Stick a MP-40 in Jax's hands and load it w/JHP ammo. It's almost gruesome.
picollo7 wrote:sneak, who the hell sneaks when you can ambush and snipe?
I do. I actually use a combination of sneaking, sniping and ambushing. Sometimes it's fun to get fancy even when a more simply plan would work just as well, but that's half of the fun of the game, IMO.
picollo7 wrote:and when you have to infiltrate a building, they see you entering anyways
Then you're not sneaking properly. Remember that staying in a crouched position, in the shadows and in the rear of an enemy's facing all help your chance to remain undetected.

picollo7 wrote:melee and unarmed, when are you ever that close without getting killed?
Agreed there.
picollo7 wrote:steal, why? there's plenty of ammo and stimpaks and first aid kits lying around, at the end of each level you always have more than you can carry
Yes, but the same argument can be made for the RPGs.
picollo7 wrote:outdoorsman, you don't get thirsty or hungry in the desert anymore
Anymore? You never did in the first place. Outdoorsman simply helps you avoid random encounters and increases your chance of finding a Special Random Encounter.
picollo7 wrote:metal armor, why is the leather armor better than this?
How are you defining "better"? Are you simply going by the Armor Class? If so, look at your inventory screen and compare Damage Threshold and Damage Resistance and you'll see that Metal Armor comes out the winner, hands-down over Leather Armor Mk II.
picollo7 wrote:anything that uses shotgun shells, can we say AK47? I have like 2000 rounds of 7 mm ammo by the 5th mission and like 60 shotgun shells, plus the weapons that use it are so innaccurate and have a shitty range
Yes, I can say, "AK-47", but that doesn't have the same characteristics that the shotgun does. While the AK fires a burst, the most you can do is dump a number of rounds equal to its RoF into an area. The shotgun types, on the other hand, will affect each and every target in its area of effect. That's why even the lowly Berreta Silverhawk, can be devastating, especially if you're using Flechette shells and set the weapon to "Double".

There are also more powerful shotguns waiting for you, too...
picollo7 wrote:Scrip
Finally, someone that doesn't call it "script". That really drives me up the wall.

Yeah, you did. In F1, if you wandered through the wasteland for a while without coming near cities, sometimes you had to stop and look for water for 2-8 hours.

You know, I honestly can't recall that ever happening to me. I've got a game of FO going right now. I think I'll wander aimlessly for a bit this evening to see if it happens.

It's a random encounter like all the rest. I once wandered the entire map seeking the Alien Blaster and Level 21, and occasionally it'd stop for water. Proximity to towns or time in the waste seems to have no bearing.

Yeah, it does happen. But if you have a water flask, you avoid it. Otherwise you lose hitpoints.

hmmm. . . looks like I flagrantly displayed my ignorance again.

i'd like to retract my comment about sneaking, i just hadn't found a use for it then, but when i got to the st louis mission (first encounter with the mutants) those deathclaws crawling in the trenches murdered every last one of them, well, the ones in the trenches at least. mother and shriek tore it up, and they couldn't even squeeze one shot in, it was beautiful.

i cried

Why did you sign up on the FOT forums? Did you do it just to flame FOT? I mean seriously don't bother, i've heard it all, and nothing has changed my view on Fallout Tactics. I like it, and nothing will change my view.

Good, you're not alone. I like it as well. Well thought out. Ok, it has a few things wrong, but what game doesn't? Only one springs to mind... pong.

charisma?
Divine Favor... easily my favorite perk in the game... not only that, but your rank is determined by charisma, which means better recruits earlier in the game, which means powerful characters. Charisma isn't a useless perk... but I don't mind giving my character a Charisma of 8 at the cost of Endurance, which is IMO more worthless then Charisma is (For the main character)

luck?
Yes, more criticals... MORE CRITICALS... other things it helps with are those special encounters and other things... Anyhow... MORE CRITICALS... jeez... how can you not love the idea of getting more critical hits?

various types of ammo JHP and AP
Hmmm... I think I'll stick with my EMP shells with my shotguns when fighting robots...

sneak?
Sneak up right next to a guard and then hit him with a burst from point blank range... Sneak is useful for some situations and it really depends on a person's style of play. I hardly used it... but some people can't get past certain areas without it...

Melee Combat?
It has it's place... I would say that making a melee specialist of any sort is suicide... but there is a particular sense of joy when you corner some poor schmuck with a monkey wrench and beat him to death... I wouldn't try it in CTB though... especially against the super mutants...

steal? Sneak up to a guard and then steal all of his ammo and drugs when he's not looking... or, if you're the ballsy type... try stealing from the quartermaster...

outdoorsman
I always raise this to 100% as soon as I possibly can. Random Encounters all but disappear... I never half to waste ammo unless I have to... definitely one of the best perks all the way to the end of the game.

metal armor, why is the leather armor better than this?
Only if you're using a character that's trying to sneak anywhere... Plus isn't easier to dodge bullets with something light instead of something bulky like metal armor? AC-wise, leather is better... but for absorbing damage, Metal is...

anything that uses shotgun shells, can we say AK47?
Never liked the AK47... hunting rifles were so much more accurate... and a shotgun would Kill you five times over in close quarters combat... Shotguns are the kings of close range fighting... and I'm glad that they finally got it right in a fallout game...

CTB is the coolest thing ever
... perhaps not the coolest thing... but you're entitled to your own opinions... no matter how wrong they may seem to me...

Quartermaster?
Why do I need to buy stuff from him when I can pick up everything I need from my enemies...

Oh yeah, Pong...

I think FOT is a very good game because they obviously put a lot of time into it but there mistakes were that it didnt have the full fallout effect but modding can fix that, like the PO i didnt think it really felt like it belonged in the fallout universe it looked like some demon thing but i feel you really have to understand the fallout universe to like FOT to its fullist
