Nostalgia: Necromunda

A friend of mine asked if I'd ever played Necromunda before, and before I knew it I was back at painting custom miniatures and modding men for my gang, ready to take a shot at it again.

I haven't played tabletops in a while now, and it's been pretty fun playing all kinds of scenarios, and letting most fall to the fate of the dice(may they be forever cursed).

For those who don't know what it is;
http://www.specialist-games.com/necromunda/default.asp

In short, it's a free system for a Warhammer 40k gangwar setting.
You can download all the rules and scenarios from the link above.

A bit more elaborate description would be the following...
In the bowels of an immense city, or hive, on a more or less dead planet, there is a wasteland of ruins, wreckage and dangers around every corner..

Several factions are fighting for territory, wealth, weapons and settlements.
There are many things to be gained down below if you can brave the dangers, ancient technology, raw materials, prestige, respect..

You're not only fighting the other gangs and the environment, but also your own equipment as it sometimes fails.

When I get our houserules sent, I'll upload them here, and you'll be free to use them as well, if anyone is interested.
If anyone else have some houserules, previous experiences or maybe pictures of their gangs themselves, please share.

I think I remember reading that it was originally supposed to be a Judge Dread game, but they lost the license or some shit, hence the Astartes presence in it and the overall Judge Dread feel to it. Dunno if that appeals to anyone, but it gives a pretty good idea what to expect for the setting.

The actual game is pretty good, and it's nice that they made it free nowadays. Almost makes up for them charging out the ass for Fantasy and 40k.

Cool, I didn't know that. You can get judge dread mini's though, maybe to a game from someone else who got the license?

I was actually contemplating such miniature games the other day, recalling that I did kind of like them, and I sort of wondered whether or not to give it a shot.

Then I realized that between Footie, the gym, work, and house building, there just wasn't that much time. Yeah, that and the fact that I know of none who play any more.

I could be wrong on some of this but I think it went something like this. While the Judge Dredd game was being made, the license was lost to Mongoose games who now make the judge dread game. GW being left with a gaming system adopted it into Necromunda. If you look really hard, you can still find some test miniatures from GW that were from Judge Dredd.

To my knowledge, Mongoose's Judge Dredd (called Gangs of Megacity One) is very similar to necromunda's system and they're a cheaper alternative to GW....course it looks like Mongoose publishing have lost the rights to it as I'm not seeing it on their site anymore and when I checked the warstore, they said all the items were no longer available.

If you already have experience building minis, you can easily buy a pack of "Imperial Guard: Catachan Jungle Fighters" and make up a gang in about an hour, without the paint.
Then all you need to do, is find you local tabletop club or shop with rooms for play and meet new people. If you can find one evening once in a while then you have your group.

(A club also provides good terrain, because without that, you don't have a necromunda game)

The models I described are plastic and easy to convert and proxy a complete gang. It's relatively expensive since it's GW... but only because of the content. The one pack, wont bankrupt anyone.

Otherwise there are a lot of alternatives for other minis, online.

I'm looking for an alternative already.
And even better, I'm thinking of making one, based on a system my friend is developing which so far is really good.
Maybe a Fallout/wasteland theme..? It certainly has most of the same potential and even weapons.

I tried a few times. Didn't like warhammer, tho' 40k was more fun, it's prolly the fantasy element which puts me off.
My only real problem was the fact that I often found it more amusing to fiddle with them models than actually playing.

I may just give it a go one of these days, if I find the time.

oh, I can afford it, I'm a consultant. My main issue is the fact that I never get around to it.

fantastic game of my youth ben a while since i played it (house escher:sexy girls, house delaque:stealthy and adeptus arbites: yeah judge dredd rip off) loads of house rules were published over the years, also get outlander rules for mutants and ratskins:indians and redemptionists: religious nutters with flame throwers.

Yuo ould also try Inquisitor rules system. This came out a few years ago kinda bombed really in my gaming groups but the system was detailed and easy to use (got nicked for WW2)

If u've got any kind of minatures 28mm tall just use them, chop em up and away u go  .

Here's the new price chart we are using.

Basicly, instead of randomly rolling on a rare chart, you declare what you want to search for.
Some items require a high gang rating, and most expensive/hard to get items require a high roll.

So, your leader goes to town, and he can have max 2 gangers helping him, adding 2, to your roll.
You then roll 2d6, and if the result matches the required roll, or is higher; you buy the item if you have the money.

On a double digit, something happens though...

Some prices have been revised.
Rules for the Rapier Laser cannon are not attached, but I wouldn't encourage using them..
