Takashi Miike's Dead or Alive

The first one in the trilogy. Quite funny, but not Miike's best.

After watching the trailers or reading reviews and stuff I'm often led to think his movies are all action packed and gore et al. but they often end up being just.... weird stuff. At some point, some girl is bathing in her own shit.

You'll only see this in a japanese movie.

Edit - I hate linking wikipedia, it sucks.

Yeah, weirdly, his non-shock stuff is fairly decent. I watched the Hapiness of the Katakuris and Zebraman recently - not so bad. So I tried watching City of Lost Souls and Full Metal Yakuza, more actiony, I couldn't be fucked to finish watching them.

I still don't get his thing with breastmilk either.

Didn't get to see Katakuris and Zebraman. To me, Audition and Visitor Q are his bests, but there's no way I'll ever watch all of his movies; there like 60 of them?

But only 5 of them are any good. Gozu and Ichi being the others.

The rest seem to be mostly trashy yakuza d-movies.

Incidentally my wife, who's from Japan decided to boycott Miike movies after she read the synopsis for Visitor Q. I tried to explain the humor of the necrophelia scene, she wasn't grokking it.

I have nothing to contribute but I will post here, just because I clicked through all threads with new posts and decided that there is absolutely nothing left to say, for now...

She wouldn't see it just because of the necrophilia scene? It's the movie's climax D:

I'm trying to get my hands on Gozu. I think it was premiered in Montreal a few years ago, at the Fantasia Fest, but I couldn't assist.

Gozu seems heavily influenced by Lynch's Twin Peaks.
Which is a good thing.
