It's supposed to be a "First Person Survival Horror" set in Chicago that's just been owned by an earthquake. Time, ammo and resources are supposed to be scarce, which sounds good.

Feel the hype: trailer

I don't see how an earthquake would completely destroy the societal structure of Chicago (like it ever had one to begin with). I imagine it was something far worse than that especially since it was six days into whatever catastrophe it was and there wasn't any sign of National Guard or relief groups present.

This would make a marvelous maze of ruins.
The "jumblevault", mixed with other fragments of nearby buildings and tunnels.
I'll just ignore the part about how without pumping most of the underground areas would be flooded, and also I'll skip over the fact that Shadowrun had the "Shattergraves" made out of a collapsed Sears Tower. Shadowrun was gay.
Cyberpunk was also gay, but at least it was tongue-in-cheek. S-run was earnest. and it had magic. and elves. omg now I see it was gayer than ubergay
god damn
so gay

you remind me of atoga, are you related to him?Edward_R_Murrow wrote:There's also probably going to be some completely forced ideology or meaning in it, that will no doubt cause all the fuckwitted game journalists to cream themselves over it as though it was as deep as Dostoevsky, Steinbeck, or some such.

You know, I find it interesting that the videogame industry is made up of mostly either too scrawny or too fat people. The developers, the players, the Gamestop employees. Yet if you look at the game characters, they tend to be uber-manly and brutish. I understand that people get a kick out of palying the ideal alpha male role, but wouldn't it be nice to see a real person tackle some obstacles once in a while?
That's one thing that turns me off about military games, like COD or GOW, is the supermasculine bullshit in the dialogue/character designs, and the bloodlust I find disturbing. They present such a vivid image of violence, but present it in a way that is a bit irresponsible.
Oh shit, ranting again, but I really feel like too much of the responsibility is put on the parents when it comes to alot of shit that is put out there. It's easy to say that the parents shouldn't allow their kids to play the stuff if they don't want them exposed to it, but I can remember when I was younger and we would tlk about videogames or the latest South Park episode and the kids who don't see that shit, are left out of it. Same goes for clothes and all other status symbols.
Its not so much the violence or sex either, because it happens. People die and people fuck, but its maybe more the philosophies, beliefs that are put out there that a kid may not be able to handle at their age.

Interesting..... Chicago is a bad enough place as it is without the decay of society and order.
Is it just me, or has Chicago been getting way too much hype since Obama was elected? Oh well, no big deal I'll probably just wait for it to fall into the discount bin like I do with everything else.
Here's an idea, lets have a game set in a small town! You know where contrary to popular belief most people in America live. Then you may actually have to SEARCH for resources. I'm just sick of cities I guess.
That's part of what I loved about Fallout. True there was LA and then San Fran in 2 but the meat of the story took place outside of those mega towns.
Fuck it.

you do realize something roughly 80% of americans live in cities right now? granted the lion's share of america's population lives in suburbs, rather than what would classically be called cities, but still. do you believe in a real/fake america dichotomy too?
