So... yeah, should I?

It's only 20 bucks on steam, or would I get more out of the witcher (which unfortunately is still $40)?

Or should I just avoid them both?

DAC is my only source for advice please help.

Mass Effect is fun once. The story and dialogue is nice, although very linear. It's basically very well written science fiction soap opera.

Witcher is kind of funky. You either love it or you hate it. I personally had both feelings, love at first sight and overwhelming disgust towards the end.

The dialogue and voice acting is Fallout 3esque, but the setting is pretty cool and you get to command a space ship. Although it was rather bland and linear, I actually got a few positive vibes from exploring the great unknown(think Star Control 2 and Space Rangers). The gameworld doesn't feel like the locations are 1 minute walk apart from each other, like in Fallout 3.

edit: As Kash said, it's fun once. No re-play value(at least for me).

The Witcher is kinda good and the fighting is satisfying. Collecting sex cards is fun :jerk:

Mass Effect is cool because it feels like a movie, but it gets boring pretty fast. Soon enough you'll realize every dialogue options, good and evil ones, have pretty much the same effect on the story. Hence the title.

I'd say, don't pay for any of them. :isohunt:

Yeah, you can get it for free on some online stores like piratebay.

I would counsel that, instead, you should consider microwaving a combination of plastic and metal cutlery. Yes. :drunk:

I'm with Blargh on this. Do something productive with your time.

Gameplay isn't that bad, a too linear for my taste, but the story telling was a hell of a lot better than Fallout 3, because the choices you make during the course of Mass Effect actually effect the plot more than the ones you make in Fallout 3 did. I recommend it, you'll probably have a fun first playthrough, but get bored with the second (happened with me). Just make sure you get the FREE DLC on the PC version before you start though.

Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either. :drunk:

I rather enjoyed the game, I loved the story, but, as stated above, it's just too linear. Hard to do it over.

You can do it two times if you are high/drunk the second time.. Be a douchebag the first (ie, the fun playthrough), and be a douchebag with a twist of jesus-christ on the second playthrough.

The dlc mission had great possibilities for douchebagness. :salute:

Mass Effect is the best new sci-fi setting I've seen, highly enjoyable. Characters are well fleshed out and the storyline is classic. Definitely worth $20.

I would pay $20 just for the ending. :fap:

Seemed pretty epic to me. I'm not sure if hes talking about the sex scene or not though?

I would go with The Witcher (enhanced edition) and preferably the original Polish version if you're fluent. The English version is good but I noticed that some of the dark humor and other linguistic flair gets cut out in the translation.

I stopped playing Mass Effect sometime after I started wishing that the game would just auto-equip the best weapons on my many team mates and after seeing the same alien planet/moon/ship/privateer base for the 30th time. What's the point of all this stuff if it's all the same?

Quite the epic sci-fi conclusion.
