they've really got a hardon for that weed whacker.
also, they seem to be drifting further and further away from the 50's sci-fi/cold war design scheme.

The usermods are actually making me consider getting a new computer and FO3. I think they're making it appealing mostly by pushing it more towards the last games, but even those that don't are making it far more enjoyable.

Some of the perk downloads could serve to be refined, but are otherwise tasty:

And the purely-ridiculous amount of extra hideouts, especially vaults, is astounding-- nice enough, however, that some are kind enough to provide new map markers.

Personally, I'd also like to make priority out of getting a respectable level cap, maybe 40 or 60, Special stats max at 12, and remove limitations on skill caps and the carrying capacity. Thus far, I haven't seen anybody handle those problems intelligently. Level caps at 100 are much too exorbetent and skill maxes at 255 are still too weak next to the old games' standards.
I've also seen a mod to make all power armors in the game much more threatening as far as outright statistics go, using old stats (which, like the old games, place serious limitations on other skills, including a 75 point drop in the sneak skill). That might change how the game flows, but for the time being, I've been more interested in new content.
DML said, however, that the mods seem to seriously hamper gameplay speed, and that it's a pain in the ass to try to run it on anything less than the best. Shitty luck.
