Civ 4

I am going to shoot this game in the face.

Playing a game tonight, and I have a massive egyptian empire, strongest military, wealthiest, most culture, most advanced.

The Russians declare war, they attack St. Petersburg (which I had captured in a previous war hundreds of years ago).

I have a stack of over 20 units in the city, fortified, ranging from infantry, tanks, gunships, and artillery. They attack my city with 6 units, 1 SAM infantry, 4 tanks, and 1 artillery. They then proceed to completely hatefuck my entire stack, they destroy all my units, and they lose... ONE, their artillery. The city is lost.

THEN I attack Novgorod, passing around the force that took St. Petersburg, with a stack of 11 units, of roughly the same composition as my defensive force. These are also veteran units, with upgrades. There are 4 defenders in Novgorod, all artillery. These four artillery units wipe out my invading force, without a single loss.

This story means nothing and is useless, but I'm drinking heavily while playing and I needed to channel my anger somewhere, as I already punched my desk and came close to hitting my monitor as well.

Must go get... gun :drunk:

lol, it is true, no joke. Name one time where another country successfully invaded russia and kept it, It was invaded multiple times, but wasnt held for very long. :)
its because they're non-capitalists, and dont revolve around the business of war, but the aftermath of war. The freedom afterwards. lol, that part was a joke :)

Sure, controlling the inner mother continent with an outside force is nigh impossible. Uniting it is even harder. But control can be achieved through the outer rim. Read some works of Halford Mackinder and Karl Haushofer on the subject of Heartland. It's pretty much the basis of (aggressive) US foreign policy, even today.

" a ring of outer and insular bases for sea-power and commerce, inaccessible to the land-power of Euro-Asia [...] Who rules East Europe commands the Heartland; Who rules the Heartland commands the World-Island; Who rules the World-Island commands the World."

Poland is the only country that successfully invaded Russia - we got into Moscow but, as in 1410 with teutonic knights, we blew it by drinking... :drunk:

Holy shit! I had almost forgotten how much better Alpha Centauri is compared to Civ III and IV.

Weren't they supposed to make another one soon? Whatever happened to that?

Im, at present, trying out the planetfall mod for civ4, which aims at a civ4-->alpha centauri conversion.

Still needs some work, but it's well worh a play.

Civ 4 is good, you just suck if you lost to the Russians.

Why not play AS the Russians? Seems like a fairly obvious solution, to me at least. :chew:
