State of Play

It's a thriller/conspiracy movie with Russel Crowe and Ben Affleck. I actually checked the reviews of it last night just to see if I should see it or Crank 2 and I was really surprised that it got such good reviews so I quickly closed out of the window and hoped it would stay like that and I didn't jinx it. I'm glad to say that it was pretty good, had a coherent and tight plot with some good acting to back it up. Ben Affleck has usually been considered a douchebag for quite awhile but he seems to be building back some respect with some movies like these.

Also I generally thought Russel Crowe was a douche bag too but he seems to have gotten less douche baggy but I really haven't seen many TV interviews of him so that helps.

I think Ben Affleck is falling into the same kind of thing that DeCaprio is, where their previous douche baggery titles are being over-ridden by their performance as semi-decent actors in decent movies.

He was the shit in Hollywoodland.

I thought he did a good job with Gone Baby, Gone.

Wasn't that his brother?

His brother starred, but he directed.

I thought his performance elevated Smoking Aces from forgettable to memorable mediocrity. Yes. :drunk:

I liked both of them in The Departed. And having Jack Nicholson was a bonus.

Except that The Departed had Matt Damon.

Lets face it, the two are mostly interchangeable.

I was wondering if I was getting confused with Matt Damon when I posted, but figured... well, didn't really care. DACKers would know what I was on about.

Really, the trio of "heart throbs" do quite well these days when they actually get decent rolls, and despite having a wonderful back catalog of shit. It's a league that I'm sure Heath Ledger would've make it a 4-some if he didn't decide go to and fuck himself after doing the Joker.

Ledger did get in at least 4 great performances before his demise. James Franco is another interesting actor to make the transition from "hearthrob" to real talent.

Franco was pretty good in Milk and also, strangely, in Pineapple Express. Hopefully now he can actually choose what movie he plays in instead of just trying to feed himself.

Hmmm, your facts have been slipping lately. First you thought Obsidian was making Dragon Age and now this? Best get control.

edit: you didn't make the mistake but I'm watching okay.
