MechWarrior 5?

So it seems that there's a trailer out for MW5, and being terrible BT fanboy that I am, I'm actually looking forward to it. After putting up with fucking woeful ShitBox Mech Assault games, I'm pretty eager to go stomping about on PC again.

That being said, it is being developed for ShitBox360, so I'm expected it to be a further watered down version of MW4 (which is a shame, because MW4 was already watered down. I want my ammo cache explosions and shit back), but I really want to play another MW game. Interestingly enough, it seems to be set during the end of the 3rd Succession Wars, and not after MW4 Mercs left out (ie: the Word of Blake crusade, which also would've been awesome), but still I think even a MW game set in time period of pre-MW2/clan invasion would be pretty awesome, or even a remake of MW2 (during clan invasion) on its own with a spiffy new engine and better hardpoint/interface.

I also doubt the game will complete my dreams of piloting an Axman though.

So to put it all into perspective;
- No omnimechs
- No clan tech weapons
- No star league shit (ie: x-pulse lasers)
- No "every-fucking-moon-has-a-mech-production-facility"
- Infact, mech production should be non-existent!
- Bigger relience on infantry/tanks/air support

Of course the exception for the first two will be if they include Wolf's Dragoons company, and since it shows Draconis Combine fighting in the video (who if memory serves employed Wolfs Dragoons we might get one or two... but I think they used conventional tech and not clan tech back then... )

My Battletech/Mechwarrior/whateveryouwant lore is rusty, but it's set in 3015, so wherever that puts it. As I read, it was meant to be a reset of the series, not a direct sequel to the Mechwarrior series

Well that's the trick, ain't it? Save vs Hard Dicking at -10.

Yeah, that's about a decade prior to the end of the third Succession War and a good 50 years before the clans. Hopefully it'll be back to good ole Inner Sphere barbarianism, since the whole thing with the succession wars was that it was just a constant state of destroying all the advanced technology and not replacing it (ie: battlemechs).

I'd like to play a battle-mech game set in 2050-2150 or so.

Maybe something like OGRE, with mechs.

Also, EW/etc. modules and mechanics.

This looks fucking badass. The last time I played Mechwarrior was when I was playing FO2 i think.

Weapon effects look rather shitty and apparently the environments aren't easily destroyable. I wish the they'd steer the gameplay more towards simulation than action bonanza before it gets released.

This series deserves a better sequel, damnit. >:(

Yeah, agreed Vas. I want to be able to damage engines, gyros and heatsinks, and have to avoid taking that damage myself. In TT that shit can make/break the battle and would add a bit more depth to a simple turret match.

More like simulation and less like action is like asking for more role-playing and less action, it just doesn't happen in this day and age.

Sorry, they're determined to 4kids up everything to the point where I'm goddamn sure the next game will have like notched bar that says "heat" on your mech build which will be the only way to tell how much heat your build generates.

You know the meaningless shitty stats bars for weapons in CoD4? Color one of those red, slap it under your mech and write heat next to it.

Yeah, I know that's pretty much going to be our outcome. But a man can dream... a man can dream...

MechWarrior: Living Legends looks to be better. A few of my boys from the Enclave are on the development team and have recently been hired by Crytek to continue development.

MW5 will just be more commercial shit. MW:LL will be much more true to battletech.

I had to reinstall my mechwarrior games after I saw this. If anybody knows how to get Mechwarrior 3 (my personal favorite) working online I'm ready to play the hell out of that.

Is that the Cysis engine mod? Last I heard they even had the go ahead from whoever holds the license (microsoft?) to use proper BT assets.

I remember watching a video of an aerospace fighter and a madcat for some mod, not sure if it was this one or not.

Yes, that is it.
