So I'm assuming that all of you have seen the trailer for the new A Nightmare on Elm Street movie. And I'm pretty sure most of you don't like how dumb Freddy looks. He doesn't really look like a real burn victim, as the director said. He looks like a real burn victim who has had a bit of reconstructive surgery. Anyways, here's some good news:
Fuller says "We are continuing to refine Freddy's look... Freddy's face is 98% practical make-up... we went hardcore on what a burn victim really looks like." Star Jackie Earle Haley spent a lot of time researching what people who've had their vocal cords burned sound like and "is still working on it and I suspect that we will be refining it, until the last moment". He also says that the new 'Nightmare' will definitely be an R-rated movie.

Why waste time making Freddie look realistic? He's not real. He only exists in dreams. He's like the Boogeyman. If anything, his appearance is only the manifestation of the parents' overzealous vigilantism in protecting their kids.

Not like NoES is so profound, but I think making Freddie superficially scarier is missing the point.

Wait wait wait, Nightmare on Elm Street was pretty much a black comedy, I've never seen the rest so I really can't speak for them. Krueger is supposed to be like the running joke of the slasher genre, why are they attempting to make it grimdark?

I don't care for Nightmare on Elm Street, but I think Jackie Earle Haley is a great actor so I might check it out anyways. I actually completely ignored the trailer when they were playing it during Zombieland, so maybe that's a bad sign.

I saw Zombieland today, actually. It kicks ass.
