It's another disaster movie but it was pretty cool and better than I thought it would be. It kind of combines all the different qualities of other disaster movies and blends them pretty well. It's about the world going to shit but they knew about it before hand and built arcs to survive it and shit. It stars John cussack and some other well knowns too that you will recognize. Even though a lot of the action scenes are pretty unrealistic they were fun like cussack driving a limo through impossible scenarios one after another and expect lots of pulling up in planes okay.
It felt like a pretty complete movie where they don't just cut it to a certain aspect of the disaster but go from beginning to end in a way. For example you would think the movie is just about getting to the arc but the arc itself is an obstacle.
Overall, I would recommend this movie to my devote review fans.

The only appreciable things in the movie, were propably the part when LA fell to pieces, and when Yellowstone went KABLOOOWEY. The other parts were hollywood bullshit. Especially the main character's children. "Let me help you daddy!" Blegh.

I saw it yesterday. I definitely enjoyed it because of the special effects and sheer scale of a lot of the things. Also, Woody Harrelson's character was pretty awesome.

Someone apparently neglected to inform Mr. Emmerich that it isn't cool to have action sequences involving planes dodging collapsing skyscrapers post 9/11. You'd figure he'd be aware of this, considering the 9/11 commission report stating that films such as "ID4" were part of the inspiration for the 9/11 attacks and shit, but hey, it's cool, right? Whats that you say? He blows up the White House AGAIN in 2012? Well fuck me running.
Maybe he'll make an Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle where Arnie blows up the FBI headquarters in an attempt to stop a single terrorist. Beaten to the punch by Andrew Davis, you say? I guess we can only ponder what might have been.

to me this could be the redeeming feature of that flick, maybe I'll go to see it after all?

I might agree with you if there was some overarching goal or mad irreverence, but personally I think Roland Emmerich is just a noisy philistine and a coward. He actually went out of his way to remove any imagery of Islamic holy sites or buildings being destroyed for fear of retaliation from the brown man.
4 lafs:

On Lawrence of Arabia:
It has the most incredible images. The only movie [from] the 60s that you can look at today and [have] it feel totally modern and real.
Actually Roland, the events of Lawrence of Arabia took place nearly 100 years ago, the film was helmed by a director already 20 years into his career and steeped in film tradition, and stared a relatively unproven leading man known mostly for his theatrical work. You're going with "modern"?
On Close Encounters of the Third Kind:
Thematically, it's very much like my movies. Extraordinary tasks placed on regular people.
"Regular dildos" isn't a theme.
On Cinema Paradiso:
I'd never really wanted to become a director. I wanted to become a production designer. You know, certain movies had better production design than others, and that was driving me for the longest time.
A production designer, aye? Telling. At least now we understand his obsessive masturbation of everything visual and his complete ignorance of everything else.

Aonaran, why do you not like him? I don't really look into the significance and political butts of stuff getting blown up as they are dodging it in a plane.
