Avatar: The DAC Review
I saw Avatar today in 3d on Imax and when I got there the line was already huge, I was pretty surprised I didn't expect there to be so much people anticipating this movie especially since it's basically a new IP. We got some pretty good seats despite the fact and the theater didn't completely fill up as much as I would have expected when looking at the line.
Anyways if you don't know the basics already its about humans going to this planet to mine stuff and the blue aliens have been giving them problems so they make a human type of link to an avatar that looks like the aliens so they can learn about them and interact. The story is pretty cliche so expect like Dance With Wolves in space and you have about the same idea. The CGI and special effects in the movie are insane and are the best yet in film no doubt but I didn't feel like the 3d added much to the movie and would have been just as enjoyable in 2d.
The movie I thought was alright not great because the story was pretty lackluster and everything just felt cliche but there was good action which was clumped towards the end. The characters all seemed okay with the general dude played by Stephen Lang standing out the most because he was very bad ass. The movie also has given thought to the air for breadthing on the planet so they don't just skip it and say its like earth so in all the action scenes the characters have to pay attention to the air or wear a mask so that was cool. Also after awhile I became attracted to the Navi so the effects of furryism is strong in the movies so you might want to be prepared so it doesn't full you into becoming a furry.
Can't think of anything else to say besides the story made it seems like the humans were America and it was a political statement or something which would have been gay.
I would recommend this movie but don't expect anything like a hardcore action movie but more of like an epic movie and lots of scenery.

Yeah but its a typical "making out-laying down-cut away" scene.

The flick was pretty solid, poops is right about the plot, nothing revolutionary, but its got a heavy dose of spectacle and popcorn movie entertainment to keep your attention and be worth the admission if you know what to expect. It does borrow from dances with wolves for sure, with a helping of fern gully thrown in for good measure.

My dads first thought was the movie had like a bit of a political statement saying like the humans were America and the aliens were like the middle east and America was being all bad. That kind of bothered me since I really wanted for us to enjoy the movie but he is very pro America and I feel like that affected his judgment of the movie to not being as great.
Looking back on the movie I'm still unsure, there were a lot of good moments in the movie its just as a whole it was just alright nothing incredible.

I think the political message is being projected into the film. We have done the same thing all throughout history. You could make the case that the film is not really just a message about Iraq, but really about occupations in general where one side is the perceived "inferior" of the other.
I'm thinking Pooper's dad must have heard that the flick was gonna have a message about the Iraq war before he went into it. I heard more about it being about early Americans' abuse of the Native Americans so if I go to see that I think that would be in there.
Pooper, your dad must be aware of the insanity of the Iraq occupation, right? I know there are people who want us to stay there and kill every Arab in sight but they're usually racists. Our use of mercanaries cannot be condoned. Our racist behavior throughout the war cannot be condoned. If Cameron made this film as a kind of message against the abuses of the Iraqi people by the U.S. and British governments then good for him.

Saw it. Story is nothing earth-shattering but I was entertained.
The two things I want to know is A: Where do all those guns perfectly scaled to Na'vi come from and B: what would happen if you plugged a dragon into a horse.
