I forgot to do a review for the Robert Downey Jr. movie by Guy Ritche film about Shirlock Holmes. The movie was a bit weird because the previews made it look like an action flick that wasn't very much like you would expect from Shirlock holmes but then the movie wasn't really all action like the previews lead on to. Either way the movie was okay but it moved too fast and you had to stick with it or you would fall asleep in it like my dad. London looks pretty cool in the movie and they seemed to really capture the old england feel in the movie with the atmosphere and the movie had a good musical score. Robert Downey Jr. was good in the movie but hes like good in all his movies now anyways.
If you go in not expecting a real detective movie and not a real action movie then you might like it. Also, did Shirlock Holmes really know all those karate movies and stuff?
I'm curious as whether megatron thought the movie was faithful to london and england atmosphere.

Sherlock Holmes, in the books, was experienced in the made up martial art "baritsu."

I quite like sherlock holmes stories but probably wont get around to watching this until later. The old tv series is good though and some radio plays are also, pretty good so maybe give those a shot if you like personified holmes and yes crap watson

There was one where Holmes was in the Cthulhu universe, I've always wanted to read that one.

It's not really made up, just an obscure reference to Bartitsu.

For once I'd like to see a movie thread that wasn't started by Pooper.

Well it's not an obscure reference as much as a genuine typo...or something. It's never really been explained why he used "baritsu" instead of "bartitsu," ofcourse it might be because the art was in decline by the time Conan wrote "The Adventures of the Empty House." He also described it as "Japanese wrestling" in the book, Bartitsu was English and wasn't exclusively about wrestling (Although it contained elements of Judo and Jiujitsu to be fair), so yea. Bartitsu is a real art, but Baritsu is very made up and probably something Conan used because he heard something about it and proposed no one would ever care. Or something. It doesn't really matter ultimately.
