Looks like the tourist attraction will open when they finish the third protective dome around the reactor, because the intense and very much intact core is still emitting tons of deadly radiation.

Given the poverty levels in former Soviet Republics, I wouldn't put it past them to downplay the dangers involved, in order to get a flow of tourism. A 2005 documentary says they still had mutating wildlife, and even mutated human babies.

Chernobyl is the longest-in-making, most expensive theme park ever conceived. And I wouldn't go there without an Isaac Clarke suit.
