Duck and Cover

This is J.J. Abrams (Lost, MI3, Star Trek) next movie and it's based i think in the mid 70's and is about a group of kids who witness a top secret train that crashes. It's kind of a mix of ET, Goonies, and Cloverfield (not all the bad stuff though).

So all the kids are working on a movie and its filled with lots of humor in it because each one of the kids play some stereotype from the real world you could say. Anyways the train crashes and an alien comes out and they play the same trick as cloverfield by not showing the thing until like 3/4 the way into the movie but it was pretty cool looking. I don't know why they do that since I think its really stupid and I'm pretty sure it actually hurt the film this time because they didn't show shit in the previews. I thought the thing was some invisible air like the previews seem to indicate and my mind didn't change until about half way through the movie.

Overall the movie had a lot of character interaction but not enough monster and sci fi type of things. All the characters are well acted and I really liked them setting the movie in the past since it was a more interesting time.

Anyways, I don't think the movie will do well. I went into Imax for the show and I think maybe 1/4 the theater was filled when generally a Imax movie has big enough power to draw a crowd.

I liked the movie for it's ET and goonies vibe but I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone expecting to see some big monster movie. Also I had my graduation ceremony for college this weekend, I'm officially smart.

Sounds ok. Could give two shits for Abrahams but Cloverfield was decent and scifi's in short supply (yeahiknowMonstersDistrict9etc but there could always be more of them iswahimsayin).

Yeah, Cloverfield was ok the first time I saw it. Second time, I wasn't high so I realized it was garbage.

The only thing that made Cloverfield bearable was I watched the Riftrax version.

haha when did I say Sucker Punch was the best movie ever? It's visually stunning but the plot has stupid decisions and holes you could drive a truck through.

I paid for that movie to see a dragon get machine gunned. That was all I was expecting so it met my expectations.

Pretty much exactly what I thought and that's why the previews looked so bad.

Anyways, I'm surprised anyone liked Cloverfield I though it was a horrible piece of poo poo and it gave me a head ache.


I will see Ironclad if it comes out in theaters, it has a strong B movie look but some decent actors in it.

Kinda felt like Spielberg was directing this one over JJ's shoulders, and it definitely benefited from the treatment. The only place it fell apart was with the monster itself, which felt borrowed from any other shitty JJ Abrams movie.
