i dunno if someone already mentioned this, but it would be even better if you could use interact something more with people around

like there could be a slaver's guild where you could actually get slaves
or a mercenary camp where you could join and leave (like a caravan, by example) but with random misions, from time to time. (like u go in january and there´s no work for ya, but maybe in a couple of months..)

and something like threaten a shopkeeper and steal his stuff without him punching you before u shot him with a gauss rifle.
i mean if u got gauss rifle or something aiming to his eyes wouldn´t he surrender and "please don't kill me take anything u want"?

then the whole town could chase u, if someone saw or maybe the cops around can see you.. so they should fix

to play the game as a ghoul or a supermutant, but i think this one has already been said before. racial tension and stuff.

also: should't something happen if u enter without knocking in someone´s house, grab his stuff, and then get out without even talking to him?
maybe u could have a burglar character, or something. convincing your companions before robbing the bank. maybe they decide not to join you on this one. maybe it's something they're against with, and they decide to kill you, talk to the sheriff, or just leave.
speech skill should be very important here.
and also the npc´s should be a little more selfish (ex: Ian: hey!, how is it that we're going to the supermutant base and u are the only one who's got power armor? i'm outta here..)

i mean maybe it shouldn't be so to-the-letter but i hope u all get the idea.

Reminds me of Fallout and the caravans, sounds good.

Yeah, but if you're playing evil just blow their brains out. And some shopkeepers can be really stubborn and defend their wares. Threatening/convincing etc. to get what you need should require a high speech skill.
then the whole town could chase u, if someone saw or maybe the cops around can see you.. so they should fix
I think we've already seen this before, if you kill someone the whole town gets hostile. Nothing wrong with that though, and that's why we've got super stimpacks.

Only if it fits in the storyline. But it would be interesting to play the game from a super mutant perspective. Racial tension and stuff, I agree, not another Broken Hills.

That's something that has been bothering me. You can freely steal stuff from other people and they don't bother. Same thing with several other games. Looting someones stuff should depend on the steal skill. Not just pickpocketing.

Good ideas (most of them)

I like the idea of holding someone up. Mabye in some random encounters you get to ambush caravans, so you get a highway man perk.

If you could kill people silently to that would be good 9so the whole town doesnt attack you)

I law system would be good in fallout. Mabye NCR invented it and it could be stuff like:
Dont go into any houses after 8:00 pm
Dont carry weapons around in a town
No use of chems other than stim-packs and rad-away
No littering

stuff like that. So you can sneak around into peoples houses at 8 and steal stuff else the police will be after you, you get frisked at a town entrance and they take your weapons off you (they put them in a bag for you to collect) but you can hide small weapons, if you wander around a town taking buffout the cops might get worried you're going to do something and arrest you and police take your stuff you dropped in the middle of the street and fine you.

It would be nicer if there were more things like that in Fallout, to encourage using Sneak or Steal to accomplish things like that. Having Steal work on containers would be nice.

Well, it does work on store tables. In certain stores that have several tables of merchandise, like Killian's General Store in FO1, you can use steal on the tables to shoplift stuff.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

It's a good idea to make the game more realistic in a few aspects.
In Fallout you can run into people's houses and take what you want, and most of the time they won't do a thing.

But this is a game and it can't be entiraly realistic.
It should be realistic as possible, but without damaging the gameplay.

Right, but it really should work on any container where there's a person near to "own" that stuff. Morrowind did a good job with thiefy stuff because it did it that way. Arcanum also did this to a degree.

yeah the idea about being checked before you go into a town that prohibits certain things would be great. This would make sneak skill have more meaning because the higher the sneak the bigger weapons you could conceal. Also the shiv would finally be a weapon.

I think it wasn't done well in Arcanum.
If you played a mage and had Unlocking Cantrip, you could open doors and containers if you stood far enough from the shop keeper.

Yeah, it could have been done better, I agree. However, the concept that a spell can trigger a response alone is pretty good. After all, the spell wasn't intended to allow magey thiefing. Unfortunately, like you said, it was exploitable.

Sneak skill should also include silent killing, hiding in shadows, evading traps, moving past security/defenses and stuff like that, not just evading combat. These things would make a thief/thug character more attractive in Fallouts. I have to admit, it didn't work so well in Fallout 1 & 2. I wanted more possibilities and advantages for a thievy type of character.

Silent killing should be allowed through a medium level perk based on both melee/HtH and Sneak. It shouldn't be a naturally consequence of sneak just for game balance reasons alone.

On the subject of container and item ownership, I really can never get enough of Ultima Underworlds "You see an <item> belonging to a <owner>" messages. It saves to whole - "I wonder if the designers linked this object to that guy over there" shit.

and i wish that you could have a better chance to talk your way out of trouble, such as stealing.

like when the gunshop owner catches you stealing once, he says: dont do that again.

and when you do, he blows your brains out without yelling something like: i warned you!
and you could be like: i was just looking! ill pay for it, ok ok ok. or something. so you could still deal with him later

Yeah that was one of my biggest gripes about Fallout. You get caught stealing and the whole fucking town wants to kill you.

Yeah, it makes stealing in Fallout a risk that is better not taken.

If you don't save/load all the time stealing is risky.

If you have a low steal skill you shouldn't steal, when you have a high skill you can still get caughet and taking that risk for a few stimpacks isn't that rewarding.

Some charecters have special equipment that is worth stealing.

Well, I only found stealing useful when getting the bozar. Although, you don't need a high steal skill to do that. I hope Fallout 3 would have more uses for the steal skill.

Don't forget - the citizens usually just run away - then you can close combat mode and try again... at least in some cases.
