Cowboy & Aliens: Hows does i make movie?

So I saw Cowboy and Aliens starring Daniel Craig (famous for having the exact same look), Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde (House chick). It's about Aliens attacking a western settlement during the late 1800's, it's far fetched but it could be done if they did it right.
The movie wasn't really any good and I was surprised since they had all the talent and budget to make something entertaining but it felt like they realized the concept wasn't that good when they started filming. Aliens attack a settlement and steal people but one dude has a secret weapon which is an alien gun so they go after the aliens and have a battle.
The movie would have been good if it was a creature flick, a monster attacking town and people having to stop it. Whenever you go into big battles against other creatures it goes to shit because then you have to deal with battle shit which 90% of the time is cheesy and shit. Then you have Daniel Craig getting a bloody mug and just being himself which is about as entertaining as watching a potato head doing his part.
The movie did have a few good things going for it as the aliens were well designed and looked cool and the special effects were well done with some good explosions.
It gets depressing because I feel like I would have made a much better film but these idiots from hollywood think they know what is a good movie and always seem to forget what made their "inspirational films" good.
Oh and I almost forgot, the aliens came to earth to get gold.
