Chased

Post by Megatron »

I think it would be a good idea early on a guy tries to kill you, and through the whole game this assasin is chasing after you.

So you have to be careful not getting to famous in a town if you don't want this guy running in and start shooting at you and spoiling quests and stuff for you.

At parts though you can trap him in rock-slides though, get him arrested, cut off one of his arms etc.

Sounds like Arcanum. I do hope that there is more than one & that the level a bit faster than the PC or what would be the point?(Reminds me that I need to DL the Arcanum patch to make the irritating Molocian Hand & Orc bandits a bit more interesting)

Level 5 "I finally kill that annoying prat that keeps on shooting at me" <g>

On that note I'm off to bed, it is past 3am & I just got home. Overnight babysitters & partying with friends is good. Alas I need to get back up in 3 & a half hrs.

I haven't played arcanum.

I'm thinking more of a guy who is pretty much invincible. You either run, or work out a way to slow him down.

Mabye it can be a sheriff or something that you pissed off, or a mercenary who is constantly after you.

Only near the very end could you somehow kill him.

I think it would be good, an enemy you always have to look out for and use your brains to defeat as well as a big bad evil thing that just attacks you when it sees you. and he would be really tough, not just a guy you can use burst with your minigun with. He could make targeted shots mabye, or keep using cover.

yeah, something like that.

Except he/she follows you around the whole game and goes in towns and stuff.

Like you could be in a bar half way through a quest, then he walks in and starts shooting at you (killing most of the people)

You can either run up-stairs and jump out of the window, or get him behind the bar, shoot out some bottles and set him on fire.

hmmm well there should always be the option of killing him though. Because that was my faorite part of fallout being able to utterly destroy almost whatever you want. In cluding the oil rig or vault city.
p.s. it does sound alot like arcanum

I haven't played arcanum, so what happens?

He shouldn't die, it would be funny seeing him with one leg, no hand, one eye, burnt head etc. then at the end he finally gets killed.

And you can't destroy almost anything you want. You can kill everything, except the overseer.

The idea is interesting, but I'm not sure if it would work in Fallout. One of the great things about these games is the open-endedness, and forcing the player to keep moving to stay one step ahead of this guy would remove a lot of the freedom from the game. You would have to rush through every town and encounter to make sure he doesn't catch up with you.
It could also be quite annoying. Suppose you're just finishing a really tough and long quest for someone in a town. You're about to go back to the questgiver for your reward when this villain pops up and forces you to git. Sounds irritating to me.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

Well he wouldn't just pop up randomly, and you can choose to run away so you see him quicker next time, or you can trap him and you might not see him for a few weeks.

Mabye he could just come after you if you do a lot of quests and stuff? For instance if your sneaking around a town and barely talking to anyone he might not fight you either.

bleh whatvre?

You know, that'd be a funny trait version of Mysterious Stranger. Occationally people show up in combat, sometimes with you, sometimes against you.

I think it shouldn't be a trait. For example - you join the New California Rangers. Then if you encounter them fighting the mutants or smth, they shouldn't get hostile just because one of them hit you instead of the mutant. Say, they should have a green border - you know what I mean.
And the same would happen if you join the slavers, Hubologists or BoS.
Because then you're actually a member of this group - so they will be with you during the fight, however their enemies would be also hostile to you.

Let me give you an example: You encounter some mercenaries fighting with Hubologists near the San Fran. You are the member of the Hubologists, so you should be attacked by mercs as well as they are. And they should consider you as the one of them. Simple, isn't it.

hehe... whatever. The attachment to the groups/paramilitary organisations you belong to, should be stronger anyway.

But you mean they just enter the screen? - considering the density of population on the wasteland it would be very rare. But maybe for example the enclavers could call for reinforcements...

Yeah, I had it once but don't remember exacly. I can only remember it was quite useless. Hmmm... if he had a little better punch then maybe... Leather jacket and hunting rifle(?) don't delight.

But my idea went a little different:
You're NCR ranger. You encounter a group of raiders, so they naturally attack you. Then in the middle of the battle some NCR patrollers are just passing by. Then they of course help you because you're one of them. They would appear from time to time, however, you would be much savier near the NCR.
That would be the additional benefit of joining some paramilitary organisations like the Rangers.
Your idea is fine and all, but SP is talking about a trait and not a perk you gain during the game. So there is no reason for you to keep saying: "No, my idea is..."
