The Scientific Fact Thread

According to a recent study there are more molecules in the human eye than there are grains of sand in the whole galaxy, that's why beaches don't look very impressive to us

The odor accompanying a fart is caused by the mercaptan pumped into your bowels as a safety measure to make a fart easier to detect.

male cats are left handed while female cats are right handed, this is so when they go to shake hands they always have an awkward 'Hugh Grant' style moment and fall in love quicker

Speaking of cats, if you put a male and a female cat in a box they become a hermaphrodite cat, that's called the Schrödinger metamorphosis. That is why cats love to get into boxes, it's so they can evolve into a higher being, like a Pokemon. These cats don't shake hands, they do a double high five but then intertwine their fingers with the partner and look deep into each other's eyes. That's how they form a lifelong bond, just like humans

This just in: Chinese scientists have successfully used CRISPR cas9 proteins and viral vectors to inject the human genome into a pizza to create a new species, the Ãœbermensch of which Nietzsche spoke. Soon we will be able to design deep frozen pizza people that will be suitable for deep space travel, that's how we will colonize Mars. The biggest challenge right now is getting the ovens there

this one could save a life. urine is actually sterile, therefore if you ever find yourself in a situation where someone has open wounds, it is advisable to urinate on them to prevent an infection.

Alright so I've been getting a lot of questions about what would happen if you fired two pistols in a train traveling at the speed of light. Here is the scenario: imagine you're on a train that is traveling at light-speed. You're standing in the middle car, you got your guns akimbo, you're radcliffing it as the kids say, and you fire your pistols at the same time, one towards the front of the train, one towards the rear. what would happen?

You can think of the speed of light as a sort of a universal speed limit: nothing can travel faster than light. so, if you're in a train moving at the speed of light and fire a pistol towards the front of the train, the bullet will stay in the barrel because it would break the laws of physics if it came out; it would be moving at light speed + bullet speed and since we know that's impossible, it will stay put.

As for the other pistol, the bullet would shoot out of the barrel at light speed plus the speed of the bullet. so if someone was at the end of the train, they would be dead before you even fired the pistol. I know it is a difficult concept to grasp but that's physics for you. I hope you understand science a little bit better after reading this post.

If you ever see a bald man, it's possible that he'll be able to provide you an endless supply of chocolate by spitting it from his mouth.

Last POW of WWII

András Toma (5 December 1925 – 30 March 2004) was a Hungarian soldier taken prisoner by the Red Army in 1945, then discovered living in a Russian psychiatric hospital in 2000. He was probably the last prisoner of war from the Second World War to be repatriated.

Because Toma never learned Russian and nobody at the hospital spoke Hungarian, he had apparently not had a single conversation in over 50 years, a situation of great interest for the fields of psychiatry and psycholinguistics.
