Problem after patching- manual Win 2K install

Post by Sudy Nym »

Hello, everyone.

I have installed Fallout (the original) under Windows 2000, following the directions found here: http://www.nma-fallout.com/fallout1/art ... tall.shtml. I tried it, and it worked fine. However, I then attempted to install the patch, which did indeed appear to install without a hitch. However, now, whenever I try to start via the .exe, I get the message that "FO requires at least 20 MB to run," etc. I can imagine what the problem would have to do with, but I have no idea how to troubleshoot it.

Have any of you tried to run a patched version under 2K? Is it definitely possible to patch and run a manually-installed version under Windows 2K? It seems as if I've lucked out, deciding to run the only OS that doesn't clearly support FO in some way. I just recently downgraded from XP, and I haven't run FO since I was using 98SE.

Any help or advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your time. ;)

EDIT: Hmm... I have edited my .cfg file to no longer include paths to the master.dat, critter.dat, and sound files (as I did the full installation), and it appears to work now, though I have not tested it completely as of yet. NMA's and Interplay's guides were somewhat different.

If you had done it like I wrote, and just unzipped the patch to the installation dir, it would have worked...done it several times on my comp..

Hi, Sudy Nym and welcome to the boards. I don't have much experience with Win 2k but I say: If it works, don't change it!
I would test my save games extensivelly if I where you, as I don't know if there would be any problems with these alterations.
If any problems come up in the future, I wouldn't hesitate turning to Intrplay or Black Isle for extensive support...
