Nostalgic moments
Nostalgic moments
I've loved Fallout ever since September 1997, when I played the Fallout Demo(Can you get out of Scrapheap?).
Explain some places, peoples, or other things related to Fallout in any way that give you a fuzzy feeling.
(BTW-That means ANY EVENT. For example: When DaC launched, when NMA started, etc, etc)
My favorite moment is the day Fallout released. I was at a mall, at a electronics store. I bought it, went home and played it all day long.

On my first playthrough of Fallout, I was totally ignorant of how SPECIAL worked. I was at the Military Base and I was crippled by the fact that I had the one-hander trait, which makes it pretty much impossible to effectively use two-handed weapons (AKA, the good ones). On top of that, I had only really invested in Small Guns, so the coveted Turbo Plasma Rifle was out of reach to me. Then, I used the Mutate! perk to turn that unsightly One Hander into Fast Shot and then used Tag! to boost my Energy Weapons skill. The first one-shot kill I scored against a super mutant made me smile.
Well.. here is my story, I remember it as it was happening yesterday:
The first Fallout game i played was Fallout2 about 3 years ago. I didn't even buy it separetly, it was an extra full version in some comp games themed magazine. I've gone back home, installed the game and started playing... nothing special i thought. Graph could be better, never really liked turn-based games either. I thought it was just another fantasy RPG, I've always hated. The only RPG i had played before was Diablo. However I didn't have anything else to play that time, so I decided to try it. I didn't watch the intro i just wanted to start the game as fast as it was possible. I chose Narg, just because i didn't even want to bother choosing another character or worse - to create it myself. Nooo.. too much trouble for me, I chose Narg. I watched the first cut-scene not knowig what exacly it was about since my english was a real crap that time. At last the main screen appeared. As I suspected installing the game, graph was ehmm.. but there were worse. I've killed that guy standing on the way to the village, just because i've quite accidently, learning the interface sold him my spear for nothing. So i had two spears then  . Then I've entered the temle. Killing everything that moved, i've encountered my first handicap. Locked door. Wow, i've spent about half an hour kicking and hitting that dorr every possible way. Then I got pissed and uninstalled the game.
Next day I installed it again and encountered the same problem. So i've uninstalled it again.
Third day I installed it again and encountered the same problem. But now i suddenly got smart and started clicking all the interface buttons on the screen. EUREKA!!! I succeded, I didn't even know how i managed to do that, but i opened the door. So i forced my way to the end of the temple, defeated the warrior and got out... and they killed me . Now I guess that's because of that unfortunate "accident" at the beginning. Since i knew only Diablo before, I'd be suprised if they didn't. After a great battle against whole village i died. I tried several times but i realised i didn't have any chance. So i uninstalled the game.
After a few weeks i decided to install it again, since i was bored. I started a new game and didn't kill any human that time. This time the game absorbed me completly. Soon i realised it was the best game i've ever played. I was starting the game several times yet, creating better characters than Narg, but i'll never forget that first game.. :snif: . Here you go.

I played Fallout somewhat in 1998, simultaniously with some friends of me. Needless to say I wasted myself enjoying the game. Two years later one of them sent me an mp3 through mail.
And yes, it was Ink Spots.
Very nice idea for a thread Valdis. snif.

Before the war, they were know as milking machines.
Now I use one to piss.
Does that answer your question?

I remember the first time I saw a super mutant in FO1 (at the watershed) I was scared shitless. I thought something like: "Holyshitwhatthefuckisthat?!"; so I pulled my newly-acquired plasma pistol and offed him with my first (lucky) shot. Then I though: "Meh, these guys aren't that tough." 8)
Boy, was I wrong...

Getting Fallout for Christmas from my brother in 2000. Playing it about 20 times till I finally manged to avoid dying from random encouters with mantids and really got into the game.
Finished it in a week, then went to EB. Asked if they had Fo2 (I didn't even know if it existed), and the guy got it out. I bought it, got the manual and played it none stop for about 6months.
But alas, I can no longer play Fo2, as my second Fo2 CD no longer works.

Well, archived news and old development chats can are fun to read. Especially the rumors, which have proven to be totally untrue.
This one for example.

Second Fo2 disc? I had a plenty of Fo2 copies and they were all on 1 cd. But it works without cd, so you can just borrow it from smbd or just buy it - here where i live it costs something like 3$. Zbyram may confirm it as well.Stainless wrote:But alas, I can no longer play Fo2, as my second Fo2 CD no longer works.

2nd CD as in the second time I've had to buy it. My first one met an untimly doom, before I managed to finish it, from a dodgy CD-ROM.Meths wrote:Second Fo2 disc? As for buying it, I burnt a copy just incase of this kind of thing, and guess what....I lost it
Got FO2 in like 1998 or 1999 can't really remember.... Didn't bother to really play it in the beginning... Well my story is quite like Meths's: used Narg, got bored, uninstalled and so on.
But then I realized that it's the best game on earth
I think I got FO1 in year 2000. I think. And it was super as well... Alas I was eager to know all the stuff behind the story of Fallout 2
So... Here I am now. Love Fallout, Love DAC, Love me.. Uh... Damn, got to work on my slogan....
