Occupations or Jobs

In the classic Fallout series(Fallout 1 and 2), you really didn't get to have a full time job.
And, you couldn't start your own buisness.
Maybe in Fallout 3 there should be some way to start a buisness or join one for life(or until you quit, retire or are fired).
What do you folks think?

I like this idea. Maybe when you join an organization there would always be something for you to do instead of just a few quests to join up. This might allow you to advance within the ranks and also give you something to do if you're tired of wandering the wastes.

But you don't get tired of wandering the wastes. You're an adventurer, not a shopkeeper.

Good point.
I just think that Fallout 3 should give you that choice. Or maybe you can hire people to do things for you(kill, complete a small quest, etc).

It would be nice to have some downtime now and then if you choose. It doesn't necessarily have to be a merchant type either..... there are lots of different ways you could go with a profession.

Sure, i've mentioned about it somewhere earlier - interactivity forever :bad-words:
If it ever happens (Fo3) i'd like to be able to become just anything. Why not to wipe some farmer out, take over his farm and make some profit from it. Why not to hire some mercs to do the dirty work for you if you're diplomatic char or why not to get regular jobs from paramilitary groups that you belong to. There's plenty of discussion on this subject on
Towns more complex topic.

This would be really cool. Maybe even like in Vice City, were you can do quests to buy/forcefully take over a building and use it to make a profit. You could have like a sheriffs office, a casino, drug lab, brahmin stable, or an ammo factory.

maybe the game could start out with your charactor (posibly one beginning) as a store owner or employee, and then the plot would thicken after that. but too much jobs and occupational stuff would make fallout3 more of a.. well, survival in the civilized wastes than a cool active rpg
"Make it big in the wastes with --Forced Labor Camps--!"
that poster thing is funny

It would be funny to do exacly what you want in Fo3 - think about Black&White. Why not to let Fo3 keep at least that level?
The more realistic game is the better.

Um...why would a guy want to start a shop if he's meant to be saving the world?
Mabye some kind of assasins guild or something similiar. The only thing at the moment is the caravan runs, but those get boring fairly quick.

FO3 isn't a Sims expansion pack. I found FO2 less fun than FO because FO2 was less focused, so I think the best route is to keep FO3 about as focused on the main goal as FO. Anything beyond that, especially what you're describing, will dilute the gameplay.

Why? Possibility to become farmer, shopkeeper, gunsmith, caravan master or whatsoever would be kinda addition - it'd be only a possibility if smbd doesn't like it - he doesn't need to go that way, especially if there's any time limit.
If there'is not - the wasteland is yours :usa

Maybe after you've finished the game. Otherwise, no.

No, it's just more there to get in the way of the actual game.

The main quest is all that matters, right?
Short, temporal jobs are fine, but they could be in form of quests.

"Chosen One, you must move quickly! We need you to destroy the evil ones before our people are destroyed!"
"I don't have time for that! We're behind schedule on three shipments and Mr. Johnson is making me stay all night to finish this paperwork!"
Wow, fun.

there should be multiple huge quests, more than 2 or 3. this way there would be 2 conected, and then a breating period before jumping back into the fray with a new one. and some would be optional acording to your actions in the game. maybe even a new huge quest could expand the size of the world map! that would be cool

Why not instead of having you run a Nuka-Cola stand, how about your character is hired by someone more directly connected to the storyline? Say for instance, you become a Captain or a Senator in NCR, or you become head Paladin in the BOS. Something along the lines of MORRORWIND, only a lot less frustrating.
