Do you have the latest patch(1.27) installed?
I think Blackisle boards might be able to help.

Scroll for the Fallout series.

I know: the win xp and the MILES sound system aren't compatible. I solved the prob but not complete: there is a MILES directory in the main d. , well, i delete this and FT is running now, but there aren't any music and speech in the game. Because the MILES is the responsible for the music. What am i doing? Damn xp and damn MILES!

If you start FOT while online, the loader has logos for the different companies involved. Click on one of those and you'll be taken to their web site.

I don't think you need to delete the whole of the miles directory, I'm not using XP but don't have a Miles compatible sound card and I just needed to delete these two files.

Mssa3d2.m3d

Mssa3d.m3d

Not the whole directory, just try removing these two files Mssa3d2.m3d & Mssa3d.m3d from the Miles directory.

requiem_for_a_starfury,

What does deleting these 2 files do? Does it speed up the game or make it smoother? I am using a Sony VAIO which I doubt uses a MILES sound card, which should I chose in the "ingame" selection of music drivers?

Thanks for the help!

Well my system isn't miles compatible and having those two files in place makes the game crash to a black screen whenever I try to start it. IIRC they are the files which search for miles compatible components. If you haven't deleted them and your game started properly then leave them be.

The safest choice of drivers is probably 'No 3D Sound'.

Hmm... am looking for ways to speed up my FOT on a slow P2 notebook... Thanks anyway!

No 3D sound huh? I'll try that if it makes the game faster...

Yes, you were right! I deleted the 2 files and now I can play with FT with music. Thank you!

It's not a bad mission. You get the Dune Buggy in it (which sounds like a go kart to me). Be good if you could barter vechiles.....
