Raising money to free Vic

Unlike my first diplomatic character, I'm having quite a few problems with this one. It may have something to do with not being a female and subsequently not being able to have sex with npcs in return for the easy way out of tough situations, and it may have something to do with the fact that I suck and my character does as well.

Anyways, I reloaded the game after shaking my fists in anger at those stupid little brat kids who took Vic's radio, and went straight to Metzger. That's when I remembered that he won't free Vic once the radio is repaired--you'll either have to buy him for $1000 or kill the slavers. Well, my character isn't very violent, and in fact he only has one round for his pipe rifle. And he doesn't have $1000. He only has $173. I thought about buying ammo from Flick's, heading over to Klamath, completing the rat quest and the toxic cave quests, and heading back to the Den, hopefully with enough money to buy Vic. However, I'm not sure that those quests will give me the money that I need, and I've also been slightly radiated from a golden gecko bite. I'm afraid that if I do too much travelling on the world map, my character will die from radiation. Which would suck immensely. That's not something that I want to happen.

What's my best course of action here?

Finish all you can for the Den, dunno why you didn't finish Klamath but finish that.

Bring all the stash back to the Den to sell it. Usually by then you have enough money, although I'll admit I always played a girl...

- I hope you didn't buy Sulik as that's often a big loss of money.
- The rats I suggest killing with a simple knife as ammo is too costly at this point.
- I suggest not buying the leather armour in Klamath as you find one soon enough.

I did buy Sulik...I'm roleplaying my character so I couldn't just leave him there...a tribal must help his fellow tribal.

Gambling! That's the key! Gambling! I'll just head over to Becky's now and place a few bets...save...reload...save...reload...save...reload...until I have 1000 caps! Hah!

You can get him for free after you save smiliy (in the toxic caves)

Well, I didn't know that, now did I? I'm afraid that I'm going to have to do some gambling.

You already have Sulik, yes? And you have the gecko skinner trait from doing the Toxic Caves, yes?

Sulik + Melee + Geckos = INSTANT MONIES from pelt sales

Yeah I figured as much, so I just told you and stuff. And robbing people is so much cooler than gambling...

Well, my character is a pacifistic doctor and thus he cannot solve problems by stealing and killing. His mission is to preserve lives, not destroy them.

Whicih part of SULIK + GECKOS = PELTS = MONIES AND XP did you miss? It is clearly the correct answer.

No, at that time I didn't have the geck skinner trait. In fact, I don't have it now. But I will tomorrow when I pick up where I left off. I'm in the Toxic Caves now, and I just rescued Smiley. I tried for several minutes to repair the generator, but apparently it's not working. I'll have to try that a thousand more times tomorrow. But now I'm going to bed.

Besides, I already got the money from gambling at Becky's Casino and Bar. I don't need to use your money-making formulas.

Welcome to one of the most obvious BROKEN QUESTS. You'll encounter several (tons) in the game, ranging from mildly annoying to OMG WTF?!

Like Sulik's sister or the Enclave patrol to Gecko or Walks with Shadows. I always liked Walks with Shadows. He was cooler than Sulik, even if he wasn't a hideous African/tribal stereotype.

Huh? You can fix the generator just fine. You just need a high enough skill to do it.

You need more stuff later on though.

As for being a pacifist, I always go through the toxic caves and rescue smily without being noticed by the Geckos, and yet have never invested a single point in sneaking.

My character, while being peaceful, has nothing against retaliating if attacked, especially if this attack is by an aggressive animal.

I realize that my repair skill is not very high, but my intelligence is, and I was kind of hoping that if I try repairing it a thousand times I will get some sort of critical success and repair the stupid thing.

I don't think it's broken, as I have read in a walkthrough somewhere that there is a car part to be found in the lower levels of the Toxic Caves. Granted, I haven't completed the car quest yet, and I likely won't for some time, but I'd like to pick up that item early on.

You can get into the elevator & the area beyond later in the game. Need a high enough repair skill to repair the generator (I never had any problem with that one) & an electronic lockpcik. I have never conscidered that to be broken, just figured you were not set up to open it at the time you visit the toxic caves to kill geckos or rescue Smiley, as there is a bit of equipment in there that would unbalance the early game a bit, provided you survived to take it.

Don't forget to raid the locker outside of the elevator as there are some meds in it that should prove useful now. Also as has been mentioned before, if yoi have any decent steal skills, pickpocket smiely for his gecko pelts before you leave the caves (& don't get caught). If you are having a problem with weight, keep & sell the Golden ones

One other small thing. There is no car part in there.

Then I must be thinking of some other place. Oh, well, I suppose I'll just move on till I'm about lvl 10 or so, then I'll come back to the caves.

I can't remember if I ever had this much trouble with money, but anymore I can buy Sulik, Leather Armor, and Vic without much trouble at all. Of course, I have to rob Klamath blind to do it.

I rise my money from random encounters mostly. Nothing more profitable then making yourself and your teammates a bunch of walking weapon stashes. I made thousends this way.
If you ever need money just go and take a stroll at the wastes. Robbers, mourderers, raiders all included in one package. get yourself some reasonable weapons and sell all the other equipment you find. You only need one 10mm pistol at start, no use of keeping 5 of them.
Radiation won't bother you at all, believe me. one visit on any of the doctors on VC or Redding will fix you up if you don't have any rad-aways on you. And as for being a pacifist.. well, killing bands of robbers and mourderers only helps the community. think of all the potencial lives you save.
