the knife i created doesnt attack

hey hope someone can help me, i've read around but cant find any answers i'm hoping its some stupid little thing i've missed out here goes...

i created a knife in entity editor, i think i've done everything right it sure looks it - its set to knife type, i've created two attack types for it, which i've checked against another weapon to make sure i have all the data fields filled in that need to be, i even have the description working. but when i get in game to test it it doesnt do anything - it just sits in my hand slot - you can change attack mode back and forth but you cant actually attack anyone with it

i played with it for ages but just cant do anything!

Two things spring to mind, 1st what is the race of the character you have given the knife? If they don't have a animation for knives then they won't use one.
2nd have you ticked the enable box for each attack mode?

When creating new weapons it's sometimes easier to copy and modify an existing one than to start from scratch.

yeah double checked the race is human (tribal) and yep the enable boxes are ticked as well hmmmm

thanks! i think i'll go the modifying route like suggested
is it possible to copy and paste a .ent file in windows and then slightly edit it in the entity editor?

Animation Name

There is only one animation name for knives. This could be your problem. Slash should be in the animation name in the attack modes section. Thrust is for spears and swing is for club type weapons. It is likely you used swing or thrust for the animation name.

Knives have two attacks, swing and thrust don't they. For my Shootout at the 3H map I even added a throwing attack to the combat knife.

Yeah you can copy it to a new folder or you can just use 'save as' and save your new version with a different name. One thing I've found, equipped weapons, i.e. knives, guns etc, can be moved to new folders in the entity folder but default attacks the punch and kick attacks need to be kept in their relevant folders.

bbill, email the knife entity to me, please. ( onthebounce@duckandcover.net ) Hopefully I can find the problem and then you won't have to worry about it in the future.

Im pretty sure that thrust only works for spears. I haven't tried the animation names of "one" and "two" though. I'll have to give it a try.

I just tested most of the animation names. I did not test "one" "three" and "four" But of the others, only slash and throw will work with a knife. Throw is universal and you can throw pretty much anything.

And I am not talking about display names. A weapon doesn't even need a display name to work. But the animation name is what animation the character uses to attack. Like I said, there is only slash for knives.
