For the past few days a lot of stories were going around saying Mad Max 4: Fury Road has been postponed indefinitely, pushed back a few years, and even cancelled. The supposed causes range from George Miller not having the money to finance the project to the possibility of war with Iraq. I can tell you right now these people who reported such things are taking a minor story and blowing it way out of proportion. They already started stunt crew auditions in Australia, vehicles are being made, and camp is set up in Namibia, Africa. There's no shortage of money, but filming may not start until late summer or possibly early fall because of the whole Iraq situation. Jim Gianopulos, chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment, explains:

"Any time you do a show like this, it is a massive undertaking with enormous prep time. In this case, it is about the movement of huge vehicles and a mass of people, and with the pending war and all the potential logistical consequences, we had the latitude to wait and let some of this stuff blow over before going into full-bore production. What we do have firmly in place is Mel and George."

There you have it. Unfortunately, Fury Road may not be in theaters July 23rd, 2004 as predicted early last month, but these things are always tentative to change. It started Tuesday with the Namibian claiming Fury Road was all but cancelled. The original article that started lots of wild rumors is right here. I've been following the story since then and official word finally came today. It was exactly what I expected it to be.
