Master Mutant, you're ugly.

Why is this guy so fucked up? I read the logs of Richard Grey in the military base and all that shit, it explained this thing that came out of this stomach and absorbed things. But why did he become such a hideous looking lump of flesh? Also, how would he be transferred from the military base all the way to the Cathedral? (Don't say a big barrel with air holes either) I just never understood the mutant, he has psi-powers, his chamber was lined with human flesh, and he had like 3 voices. Sure it was creepy, but if he was the final step on human evolution.. I would be glad to die young.
The absorbing thing reminds me of John Carpenter's "The Thing", wonder if that had any influence on ole' Richard Grey's design.

Ugh... Lots of questions.
Well, the Master is a mutant. And I guess the developers wanted to kind of shock you with his grotesque appearance. And I believe the FOB says he was brought from Mariposa to the LA test vault in a cart that was pulled by a variety of mutant servants.
And the three voices are to reflect all the different personalities he has.

He's a really awsome final character. I never did understand why he was able to expand himself all over the vault. Unless that biological goo just kind happened.

Again, mutation. Oh, and the computer-y voice he has represents the neurolink he has with the Cathedral computers.

i think the FOB does actually mentions a barrel as well :)
ah yes....
4. I have no idea how the Master was moved. It was probably either by a large (steam) truck or caravan, but I don't have any specific information on how he was moved. I doubt a caravan could do it unless Grey was much smaller and, uh, less "spread out" than he was at the end of Fallout 1, which is entirely possible, but he sounded pretty fucking mutated in his audio diary in the Military Base. Maybe they poured him into in a toxic waste barrel and transported him that way. I haven't found an explanation in F1 anywhere so if anyone finds one before I post an answer, let me know.
ok so perhaps he wasnt being entirely serious :p

And the thing about being the final step of human evolution... That's what Master thought - but when you convince him, that mutants are sterile, he goes nuts. He understands that all those freakish tests, all those thousands of experiments on people and animals, all the cruelty he had leashed upon Wasteland was for nothing. So he gives himself a shot in the mouth, uh, so to speak ;P

keep in fact, Grey was in the vats longer then any of the Super Mutants were, which could of lead to his....appearance, and abilities

damn he's cool, what with the telepathy / miniguns / horrific appearance and all. one of the coolest end bosses of all time, I'd say. his computer-y voice is indeed the cathedral neurolink, and the female voice is from some girl he, well, absorbed.

His abilities...which included such superior intelligence that. "The most advanced philosophical questions were so clear."
Not to mention the ability to be such a fool that you forget to check if your 'superior race' is sterile.
The Master may have been intelligent, but he was far too spontanious. He should have thought things out first.
However he was a nice final boss, and was truly the mystical leader of the Unity.

Well, there are many masterminds in real life who just happen to be... well, fucked up. John Nash comes first to mind.
Masterminds

John Nash was not necessarily a mastermind. Besides, what he suffered from was just random chance.
I think that the master was not 'fucked up', but rather too preoccupied. He was probably too busy thinking about philosophies to bother with trivilaities such as his mutants being sterile.

Preoccupied? That's what you call "crimes against humanity" these days? :P
And John Nash is (or was, I'm not sure if he's dead) the best mathematician of our time, no?

I thought The Master was excellent, quite a surprise that the Cathedral's god was a disgusting blob of flesh and machine entombed at the bottom of a vault.

he portrayed the unity exelently with his multiple voices/personalities. and plus that makes him even more creepy... Unity... UNITY... unity...

Are you sure?
Its just I heard that he was in for a shorter time and that would also explains why he's not green, has skin hanging off and not dumb as a doornail.

no, he was in there for months on end, I believe. He had a good long soak.

FEV doesn't really explain how he became a mutant/machine hybrid or why he seems to be a mixture of 3-4 different persons(judging from its speech). Perhaps he somehow grew into the control pedestial. Otherwise The Master is probably one of the best end bosses ever.

Most organisms merge when dipped in FEV, and since he soaked so much of it I guess it's understandable that he can absorb other humans. In my opinion The Master is the BEST. BOSS. EVER.
