What's the dumbest thing you've done, or what has had you tearing your hair out trying to solve a problem only to find out that the solution has been staring you in the face all the time?
Me, in my most recent effort I'd put a shop keeper, I'd set up a neutral team for some of my actors to sit on until their cue. I set up the shop keeper's player index, put him on the neutral team and then loaded the map. He could barter fine, and gamble, but if I had my team's sentry mode set to aggressive they'd start to shoot at him. I couldn't work out what was wrong, he also wasn't using the waypoints I'd set up. So since I hadn't used team 8 I made a team all for him, which was friendly to the player and I updated his player index. I even upped his strength incase his inventory was too heavily.
But he still didn't use the waypoints and my team still attacked him. Finally I went to tripple check I'd entered the right number in the player index, and low and behold, silly fool that I am. I'd entered his player index number into the direction field by mistake. Thing is I must of checked I'd given him the right number twice before and not noticed. Grrr!

Oh yeah tell me about it, I never seem to get around to backing up on to CD, though I make back ups of the actuall map every time I make a change and save.Max-Violence wrote:Didn't backup everything on a weekly basis.
Due to HD failures, and my own stupidity when I got my pc back from the repairers I've lost my map twice this year.

Didn't put in any staircases or ladders for actors to go from one floor of a building to another...requiem_for_a_starfury wrote:What's the dumbest thing you've done?

Hmm.. lessee.. Gotta thing long and hard.
Biggest mistake: Drawing a map first with a design that seemed simple on paper but severe labor with the editor (the mountain tiles).
Ok here are a few lesser ones.
1. Waiting around hoping for inspiration to work on my RPG.
2. Placing a character, insertion point, etc.. too close to the edge of the map (resulting in a character that can't move).
I never really backup any of my files so I would REALLY be hurting if I got a bad virus or something. I need to consider hard copies of backups more often.
I've also made a lot of silly mistakes like expecting broken vehicles to fall, expecting the computer to shoot something that doesn't seem hostile to them, etc.. The editor is a complicated thing.
