Yet Another XP Problem (Fallout & Fallout 2)

Post by Gragt »

Hello people. I looked on the board and it doesn't seem that someone else got that problem.

Fallout and Fallout 2 install very nicely (even Fallout, after all I heard that the installer didn't work... It works normal here, with the autorun and everything). I tried both games a little and all seems normal in both of them except...

When I die and the death screen comes, instead of hearing the sweet voice of Ron Perlman, the screen fades out as if I immediately clicked on my mouse button and it comes back to title. No crash or something suspicious except it simply exit the screen.

Same thing happens with Fallout 2 and again except that, everything else in the game seems fine.

I don't know if the ending will do the same thing.

So I can easily play the game (I think) but... You know, without it, it isn't like I have a Fallout game, there is something amiss when you don't have Ron Perlman saying that I perished... And if it does the same thing for the ending... I prefer not to think about that.

Maybe it isn't XP related but that's what came to my mind. I run on XP Pro SP1 with Directx 9.0. I tried it on a computer with Directx 8.1 and it does the same thing. UK versions with childrens and other patches for both of them, but even after a fresh install without any modifications (except patch 1.02e for Fallout 2), I got the problem again.

If anyone can help about that, I'll be more than grateful.

Edit: well I created a super character with Falche to beat the game quickly. There is the same problems with the endings. Each sequence have no voice and the images fade out as soon as it appears. So far, I do not know from what it would come.

I fixed it:

Run dxdiag, go to sound tap and move the slider to "no acceleration"
