Character sprite question........

One could concivably create "new" character tiles in photoshop. It would, however, be a massive process.
In theory it's possible to simply resize each frame of a sprite (probabbly up to 15% larger without serious impact on image quality) to make a smaller or larger animal. This means that it's possible (in theory, at least) to make rats the right size (they look about right at 25% of their full size) and also make such things as, for example, baby radscropions.
Now comes the question... since that would require one to manually resize a TON of frames, is it possible to automate the process?
I think this one is more directed to Red than anyone else. Would it be possible to write a program that could batch-resize every frame in a sprite? It might be a pain in the ass, but it seems like it'd be a good lead in to making your viewer... but tell me if there's another way to automate it.

Photoshop does have batch processing tools so I'm thinking theoretically that would be possible. I have used it to resive thumbnails for several dozen images and it is handy. I am not quite sure how it would work to make selections automatically - that may have to be tested.

Then you would need a batch processing version of a sprite editor to actually make them without spending several months at it. Spray would not be able to handle something like that. The original editor would be needed.

original editor or a batch processor from Red...
The biggest problem is getting the files out of Red and putting them back in. I'm not sure if there's a batch resize function in Photoshop, but you're right that there are other batch functions... it might be possible to track down a script that could do that.

it might be possible to macro the whole process..... hum... but not likely. The resize could probabbly be macro'd though.

To my knowledge, there are slim chances that Red will create a tool similar to spray for FoT. Especially now with the FO editors here. It's been 2 years since the release of the game and despite the talking, none even started working on scale for it. I believe it's more possible to see a FoT 2 than new character sprites for FoT.

I can script the batch resize and save as raw, I just need a program that'll automate getting the images out and putting them back in....

The complexity of making original sprites which actually WORK properly with the multiple layers are rather high, which is the main problem of sprites.

Given I eventually work on sprites (other then just weapons and containers) there will be a need to make a batch process to import the data into a sprite. There is simply no way anyone would be willing to manually incorporate thousands of frames into an editor :P
