coming back for another spin, need help

i was looking around what fallout 2 sites can be found, i just reinstalled the game for another spin [i've played it through at least 6 times now over the years] and i noticed some mention of unnofficial patches - which i'd like if they fixed bugs. I do remember things like the improved flamer and laser pistols sucking - and it would make my next run through a lot nicer with some small changes. It seemed, though, that the unnofficial patches i could find were not for US versions. Are there any fallout 2 patches/mods that are good/clean/all-inclusive? If so i'd be really happy to find them.

Also - some game questions before i make my character up - how many of those mod chips are there in-game [the ones that give +1 to various stats when used in the brottherhood of steel base]? Which stats do they modify? That's about all i can think of at the moment.

zeta scan at the hubologist church in NCR gives.. i thought it was +3 luck myself, +1 str from the mod chip, +4ish from power armor... see, i take it off often for roleplay though,, just don't feel right marching around as tinman all the time, for every encounter. I saw a 1.03 patch here at duck and cover, said it was for the UK version though.. it has some nice bugfixes.

Any eta on 1.05? i'm impatient

When you say "install one of the many random mods out there" perhaps you or someone else has found a gem and could relay the location to me?

Wait for 1.05. Or install one of the many random mods out there.

There's four mod chips - one each for ST, IN, PE, and CH. How to find them has been discussed in detail elsewhere.

actually:
you can get a total bonus of +5 str in the game, so you only need like 5-6 (unless your not a small guns guy)
you also can get +2 luck later in the game, so keep that in mind (best to keep it at 5 though, luck is good)
and there are those +1 to in, pe, and ch. so plan accordingly

(remember that you dont get these right off the bat, so you may struggle if you really need them)

+5 strength: power armor advanced +4 and +1 from module.
+2 luck: talking to huboligist in NCR.
