for me, nothing can beat going for the ultra high unarmed skill, sneaking up - giving a judo chop to the back of the head, and knocking a fo uncoscious. Its spectacularly useful even in the face of burst-weapons of devistation - not to mention having far more style. The funny parts have to be all the times my characters have KILLED opponents in non lethal combat. San Fran, Reno, Temple of Trials..
"Whoops! I'm a lethal weapon! I can't help it!"

go for the instadeath-- hit them in the back, "their spine is clearly visible from the front"
plus, hth comes in handy when you are in newreno and sanfran. good deal.

don't know what this instant death business is about. i've never noticed it. The closest I know of instant death is where the first shot takes more hit points than the target has

It's simple. Just reach level 24, meet the prerequisites and take Slayer. Every time you attack, you roll luck for a critical hit, which results in a surprising amount of deaths.

instadeath is when you kill them without taking away all of their hp. so you could critically hit lo pan in the back for 2 points of damage and if the instadeath pulled through, hed die right there. spine busting out of his chest and all. if you have 10 luck it happens extremely often.

It happens often with 6 Luck and high unarmored skill as well... Just chew through tons of unarmed matches and you'll soon get used to it

Not excactly. The Slayer perk just upgrades ANY hit to a critical, you don't need a luck roll.
Only the Sniper perk requires the luck roll.
