All right, most of the people on this forum love to poke holes in the plot holes and idiotic elements of Fallout 2. But, on the other hand, what did you like about Fallout 2? What was original, funny, and '50s? What parts of the story, NPCs, cultural influences, and other odd things made the game good? Come on, offer some constructive criticism about the highs of the game, because I'm sure you can all agree that at least some parts of it had the same magic as Fallout 1.

Just please don't say "I LIEKED MONTY PYTHON SPECHIAL ENCOUNTERR CUZ IT HAD FUNNY BOOMSTIK GRENADE," okay?

i liked how it was a lot longer, if you wanted it to be longer (you could play it "short" if you wanted, very flexable)
also... it was a lot easier to be evil and get through the game without being shuned by everyone you meet.
more of a tech curve if you ask me. you dont just all the sudden get awsome weapons only at the end of the game, there are enough weapon types that you move up slowly, if you play the game "correctly" (no sanfran rush)
and some other stuff, but i cant think of it right now.

I like it because of the MONTY PYTHON SPECHIAL ENCOUNTERR CUZ IT HAD FUNNY BOOMSTIK GRENADE ;)

Morka hit before i did :o

Anyway. Simply put, i liked the atmosphere. Good background music and wasted cities. And of course all the vault-tec stuff was great with vaults and all, something new.

Thus i liked Fallout 2 more than 1.

You liked Fallout 2 better then 1 because of the setting?

That's kinda wierd, as the setting and atmosphere was by far more developed in Fallout 1.

No, not because of that. But the setting and all were what i liked in fallouts generally.

I did not find many things that I didn't like. I thought is a good solid fun game to play.

I enjoyed NPC party member interaction, myself.

I liked having more combat shotguns. The regular combat shotgun was always my favourite gun in the original, and the caws and jackhammers were nice, because, obviously, I liked combat shotguns.

I liked the length of FO2(as stated above) better... and more realistic guns (P90, FN FAL, Jackhammer, CAWS, Etc...). I also liked having more sub-plots (VC&Gecko, NCR&V:15) and microplots (Those two fighters in San Fran, The 2 bars in The Den) and, of course, decent smooth Tech advances (as stated above)

I know, I know, too many parenthesis (Even though i'll get grilled on it anyway)

Personally, I enjoyed Fo2 because it was longer, and had more quests. That about covers it. Everything else, I enjoyed more in Fo1.

The monty python jokes killed the atmosphere. It's no longer atmosphereic when you come across a bridgekeeper, steal his magical robes (that change colour too) and are 4 times stronger defensivly because you just got to Klamath.

Agreed.

What I was trying to ask was mostly along the lines, "What parts of the atmosphere did you like?" ie. what cities/towns, organizations, people, guns, whatever, compared to Fallout 1 - not that Fallout 2 was bigger, juicier, had more easter eggs, etc. But it's good to know the people's opinions on that too.

Pixelated love eh? hehe...

I liked the stories around the towns...
The small quests, find this for me, do that, kill a million wanamingos, we need a thingamajig for our powerplant, we need real booze for our bar, I need a body to learn about my surroundings, fight me; loose and you're my gimp, kill my husband? use the safe... and so on...

And the way you could talk your way through the game, or at least a lot of them.

All the little strange, yet interesteing stories...
It doesn't matter to me if they fit or not, it's wehter I have fun solving the mysteries, and completing my objectives that I find important.

Af for the atmospheres... well... all of the places have somewhat of a feel to them and their own stories, but none of them compare to moving around the towns in Fo1..
I'd like to keep the two seperated and like them for each their good parts.

There's no right or wrong, it's each to his opinion... but it is interesting to read what other people got out of the game.

hopefully in FO3 they can set up some sort of level/progress check if you find an encounter so that you dont get some kickass items early in the game.

another star point to FO2 is that the Big Guns PC had a chance. in FO1 there was only the rocket launcher, minigun and flamer. (flamer/minigun kinda sucked later in the game.) but in FO2 there were lots of big guns, and even though the bozar was insanely powerful... it was still fun

I, like Stainless, liked the length of the game. I also liked how the various towns interacted with each other. The whole game area was very well developed. The whole plot was also pretty good. The Enclave wasn't as good as the Master, but still a pretty damned good bad guy.

All in all, FO2 was a very good game. It just had a few shortcomings in the Fallout game category.

God theer are loads of things i loved about this game but these have to be the best:
The length and depth of the game. Many more towns and quests increased the playability of the game and also the replayability.
The additional weapons were sweet as well, especially around the small weapons and shotgun range.
New Reno and Gecko were probably my fav town additions to the game. New Reno was my kinda town and Gecko gave ghouls a much bigger role that what they had in Fallout 1. Plus Ghouls are the supirior race!
I also found the political struggles fun. Towns fighting for control, political assasinations and so on. Made it much more fun to play.

Ah politics/killings are good....
And more guns is ALWAYS better. Exept in FO:BOS/T

Well I never played F1 and Im only just playing F2 for the first time.
I keep getting as far as San Fran before I remake a character. This game is amazing, very flexible lots of different ways to get to the same goal. What I like most are all the sub quests, especially the one between Bishop, The NCR and VC that one lasted a while. Anyway I started my first game as a gunsman, then I tried 2nd time as a smooth talker, 3rd time Im trying it as a scientist (high doctor/repair, speech and science skill) this combo is unlocking a lot of the quests I kept trying to get deeper into on my 1st two tries. A lot of the comic relief and one-liners from old movies and books really hit me from left field cuz I'd never expect to hear them in this type of game. Thank you and goodnight.

When I went to The Den and was killing all the kids I set burst fire on a 9mm SMG and of course with my Bloody Mess trait blow the kid apart but then there was a hooker on a street corner about 3 hex's behind the kid and she also died... I found that disturbingly VERY satisfying
