I'm not gonna like it.
Afte reading the faq over a nma i get the feeling that i'm not going to like F03, here's why:
1. "Haze" of war, it sucks and was the reason i don't play FO:tactics. It wasn't in fallout 1 or 2 and i think it helped to create a feeling of space and openess brought on by a nuclear collapse.
2. You will have control over the following basic attributes:
* Build (normal, wiry, strong, fat)
* Skin color/texture (a number of variants within a number of different "races")
* Hair style
* Facial hair style
* Hair color
I don't like this and it creates a sense of playing as someone else instead of allowing me to imagine myself as being in he game. I would like no pictures of the main character like in FO1 and 2
3. Bastard real-time mode. FO3 needs the tradition of turn-based mode, it allows better strategies to be employed and creates a better game atmosphere, without creating a hack and slash mentality.
4. The game is heading in a different direction than i would like to see. Decreasing firearms use, a new SPECIAL (why?), decreasing eyes shot percents, no fixed camera, no talking heads.
these are just my opinions and i'm sure i will buy the game and i sincerely hope they don't fuck it up.
carry on.

I'm kind of surprised you think that these elements (besides the bit about guns) are going to drastically change things. "Haze of war" really just means you won't be able to see everyone onscreen at once, or scroll over the whole map. Which you couldn't do in FO2 anyway. Line of sight gets thrown in for good measure. The fact that you can't see the whole map from one fixed position doesn't make the world seem any smaller. Besides, I can think of plenty of better reasons not to play FOT.
Don't you think the ability to change what the character looks like might mean you can make him look more like you? Customizable appearance lets you add that personal touch. If that doesn't work out for you, don't look at your character's face.
As far as real-time mode, if you don't like it, turn it off. I'm going to. Does it really bother you that other people can play in realtime if they want to?
With abilities and combat-related things, these are mostly a matter of game balances. Obviously they saw shortcomings with SPECIAL and it's time to move on to a different variation thereof. I'm not sure how I feel about simplifying the gun skills, but that WILL free up some points for other skills. I can definitely see why they're changing the called shot a bit. Once you've got 95% to-hit on the eyes in FO or FO2, the game's a total cakewalk. There's no real worry about being killed when you can blast the brains out of anyone at 100 yards.
I think fewer weapons and ammo is a good thing, even if it's somewhat contraversial. The parallel to Road Warrior that is made in the Van Buren FAQ is a good one; guns and ammo will be a lot more valuable and important in combat if they don't grow on trees. Besides, it adds an element of realism - post-apocalyptic USA isn't 1980s Lebanon, and there isn't a gun bazaar on every corner. Making firearms harder to come by is a good thing, overall.
You're a bit too worried about changes that sound like good ones.

I'll get you, Yoshimi.
i agree with ENR, there should be less weapons than FO2, and the called shots are really nasty if u kno how to combine it.
my brother took the sniper way, he had finesse, super perception, and the sniper perk (and i don't remember what else) and he just kicked Horrigan, turrets and all those "elves'" asses in a few rounds, while i had to activate the turrets to go against him and kill the soldiers first.

Eh? I thought the pre-fab characters like Narg and such had pictures..trythebill wrote: I would like no pictures of the main character like in FO1 and 2
As for customizing character looks..I'm all for it..I'd love to have a fat pudgy bald main character (ala Vic or Gizmo) that I can relate to.

Because you know the Fallout community always loved playing with pre-fab characters and never click on "custom character" instantly out of habit.pre-fab characters
Do you even see that picture any where else in the game? I have never played with a pre-fab character does it change anything besides your starting stats.
Customizing your own character looks will be an off-shoot of NPC character creation, so we will won't see the same 5 sprites used over and over. Now NPC characters can all look more unique as well.
Nope.Human Sheild wrote:does it change anything besides your starting stats.
Agreed. I like the looks of the whole character sprite customization idea, so long as none of the sprites look friggin' ridiculous like they did in FOT. Also, there should be many different clothing choices you could make through the game (in addition to armor).Human Shield wrote:Customizing your own character looks will be an off-shoot of NPC character creation, so we will won't see the same 5 sprites used over and over. suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

i do fear that this bastard turn based will feel more like tactics and less like fallout 1. fallout 1 seemed tailored to the turn based style of gameplay and all my experiences with a twin system(arcanum, tactics) have turned me against it.Evil Natured Robot wrote: As far as real-time mode, if you don't like it, turn it off. On the subject of firearms and their avaliability i think that if there are 265 million guns in the u.s. now, there would be a fairly abundant amount in the fallout universe. 50% of homes containing a gun would allow for a decent amount of weaponry. I think if they had left out the phrase "less" and substituted in "harder to come by" (as in they are around people are just hording them) I would feel better. I get the feeling I will be forced to play a way that I don't want too. Fallout 1+2 allowed you to do whatever the hell you wanted to do because there was an abundance of everything, not limits or artificial scarcity of certain game elements that one person might want to use over another. All I am hoping for is that the things I need to play the game the way I want are present. Which is very concited, but one can hope can't he?

You can't make agruements like this, it is a totally different timeline. Fallout universe takes place after the great war in which I believe gun-control was heavily active before the war to weaken the massive riots, plus production was halted with low resources, plus the a-bombs and 100 years of decay.On the subject of firearms and their avaliability i think that if there are 265 million guns in the u.s. now, there would be a fairly abundant amount in the fallout universe.
The guns in Fallout were either from safe storage or made recently. Far away from big trading places guns would be limited.
It's speculation either way. I don't believe the FO Bible ever addressed the issue of gun control, so it's probably safe to assume gun ownership continued in FO like it did in the US. Hell, considering the very large availability of automatic weapons NFA '34, which restricted machine guns and sawed off shotguns in civilian hands, would probably have to be repealed.Human Shield wrote:You can't make agruements like this, it is a totally different timeline.
