HELP, MAJOR RUN PROBLEM

Ok , my fallout 2 doesnt work no biggie its scratched to hell so i thought i'd go ahead and beat fallout 1 for my first time well im almost completly through and im fighting harry in necropolis (i got there too late) AND DOGMEAT gets in my way and i turn him into a mcnugget as soon as he died my game crashed and said: Not enough free hard disk space. Fallout requires 20.0 megabytes of free hard disk space, so i tried just reopening the game and it said the same thing so
how can i fix this or can i fix this?

Don't listen to any of these jerks, you aren't dumb. I had this same problem myself. Open up the fallout.cfg file in the fallout directory. This can be done with a simple text editor like notepad. You should see a document full of various labels and numbers. You want to scroll down the the [system] section, it's the last section, and edit the value for the free_space setting. There's probably some large number there, just change that to 0.

The corrected entry will look like this -- without the bold of course:

if those things don't work, run it in compatibility mode. (win98)

check out this thread my post shows how to enable compadibility mode for win2k (if you use win2k)

or if you have xp you should try something else.
i remember win2k has a problem with that 20megs bs when you manually install. (on win2k..)

added:

first check if you actually have 20 megs,
and remember that FO1 saves take up a lot of space, so you may have used up a bunch from just saving.

The problem isn't with the amount of space... if someone actually gets down that low on xp (if you get down near 200 even) it lets you know. Fallout just can't detect the right amount of space in NTFS, it's hard to explain and I'm tired, but suffice to say it sees the harddisk space in chunks, and when it gets close to certain numbers it thinks it's out. When you go below that number though, it'll think there's enough room. Just set it to 0 in the .cfg file and you're good to go though.
