Screen made of... nothing?
Hmm the next line in holograms, except it's not. It's there, it's not
tangible, it's pretty and flickery, but it's not a hologram, it's fog.
(And it's finnish, so Kash rejoice)
Seems pretty nifty, and it might be going commercial, how about that?
Having your own fog-screen instead of a monitor. hmm... I wonder what resolutions it can take?
Anyway, here it is: http://www.cs.tut.fi/~ira/wave.html

Soon we can have some Snake Plissken-esque practical jokes played on the futuristic totalitarian Christian government!

"I have the button to shut down civilization with EMP satelites! But you can always shoot me! HAHA, just kidding! I'm really a hologram!"

But sinde they're planning on selling it to supermarkets and so on, it might just be buy-able.

In all probability, it is phosphorus.
If they have a light show made out of it at a stadium where parachuters and hang-gliders come in a landing, they'll most probably plummet to their deaths because of the way phosphorus works.
It's the Bermuda Triangle stuff that causes ships to sink and airplanes to dive.

It seems this is completely a Joensuu university project. Look at the titles of the creators: dr, prof... So I doubt it'll be cheap even in the next 10 years. It's still long way to mass production, they got to find cheaper materials etc. etc.
Don't know about the dangers though, but the developers insure it's all safe to use in any and every condition. But then again, people can lie, so who knows?

I don't know the exact stuff, but putting 1 and 1 together, as it's a university project and they haven't been rushing in the developement, it's propably made of exquisite materials. Like when microwave was invented: it used radar parts from fighter planes, so it was too expensive for normal people to buy. They changed them to lesser quality parts and had a sellable product in their hands. But to realize this mistake in the assembling process took them, ooh how much was it again? 15 or 20 years?
Simplified: it's like making toilet paper from covered bank notes.
