INTERMEDIATE GAME DESIGNER
Updated 8/07/03
We’re looking for somebody willing to brave the horrors of being a designer on one of our upcoming RPG products. If you think you have what it takes, send us a resume. If we like your resume, we’ll ask for some samples of your work. Some things we’re looking for:
A few years experience, at least a game or two under your belt (preferably RPGs).
Must love RPGs in non-disturbing ways. If you do love RPGs in disturbing ways but you still have a good resume and good qualifications, then don’t sweat it too much, just don’t share your experiences at the office.
Willing to work hard, with or without the threat of beatings.
Must enjoy working and joking around with game nerds. Must understand stupid jokes such as “I just failed my saving throw vs. going to lunch and “shut up, Darren, you’re only a level 3 producer with no chance of multi-classing.
Can endure the horror of a fun working environment where shoes are optional. Pants are still required at all times. And we don’t mean worn on your head.
Good writting skils and gramar ussage.
Good technical writing ability. Trust me, you’ll be doing this a lot. You may even cry about it at night when no one can hear you.
Have to know how to use most of the Microsoft basics – Excel, Word, all that junk. Photoshop and experience with paint programs (for the purposes of concepting and drawing maps is a plus).
Scripting or programming experience is a plus.
Can put up with teasing from posturing bosses and producers who think they’re running the show. Must be willing to hide the truth of how things really run from them until the designer revolution begins.
Ability to both have thoughts and organize them. There may be times when the second one is more important one than the first.
Works well with a team. It seems like that should be a given for every job except hermit, but we thought we’d throw it out there anyway.
