Starcraft vs. Warcraft

No offense, but Westwood has kept the same formula for an RTS since Dune 2. Hopefully, the rumoured Tiberian Twilight will revolutionize the series.

Then again, Blizzard kept the same formula from Warcraft to Starcraft: Brood War. Warcraft 3: Reign Of Chaos' heroes and four races was a good step in trying not to make the Warcrafts turn into a mindless Orks vs. Humans series.

Overall, C&C is still one of the best RTSs of all time, although I prefer Starcraft.

Junkie-- You scared me with that post. :?

Actually there is a MAJOR difference between Starcraft and Warcraft. First of all each game has unique units and races with totally different strategies. There were also 3 races in Starcraft set in the same story arc, which was also very revolutionary for an RTS.

Units aside, I've found that both series just use the "Mine two (3 in the case of Tides Of Darkness.) magic minerals and rush to the objective while being aware of the number of units you have." formula.

Everyone has their opinions.

Warcraft III is alot different you could have 2 times the gold and mass gryphons then a NE character could just send a moderate force of hippogryphs and take you out, they would also need a moderate ground force to go in after the hippos. But WCIII had so many Armor and atack types and flying, counter, ground units etc. that the strategy really is almost infinite.
If you don't have the right mix of units it doesn't matter how many units or how much gold you have.

Same with Starcraft.

Should a person rush with 36 Zerglings, an enemy with 3 Siege Tanks in Siege mode backed up by 3 Marines and 1 Firebat in a Bunker could smoke them easily.

Well they're both great games and Starcraft was the one that changed the Blizzard RTS franchises. Warcraft III added more strategy and heroes, but that's still not enough to place it above Starcraft in my book.

I've playing thousands of games with both series, and Starcraft is still the better game. Requires more skill and strategy, WC3 is pretty much microwars and easy for newbs to get the hang of. Frozen Throne has improved WC3 a bit, but it still pales in comparson to Starcraft/bw.

I also like Starcraft better. WC3 demands too much micromanagement, which I suck at and thus hate.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

Personally, I prefer StarCraft over Warcraft. No idea why. I probibly just prefer the setting, as Warcraft 3 is just utter crap. Upkeep is rather annoying and I swear to god if I hear someone spout rubbish about how coolish the micro management is init, I'll ram their head through a window.

But other then that. I enjoy SC more for no apprent reason, although it is by no means my favourite stratergy game.

You're not the only one who prefers SC over WC. The plot was pretty good, it's freaking sci-fi, and the series has some of the best cinematics ever created. (At least in my opinion.)

Overall, I'm still stuck to Alpha Centauri. It's quite addictive, with those beautiful, graceful Planet Busters!

I agree with you there. I still sometimes turn up the pro logic, turn down the lights and watch that Battle of the Amergo one

Yes, easily the best of the original Starcraft.

I assume you're aware of the Wasteland/Fallout reference in the Terran Campaign: Rebel Yell.

Remember the first mission after Boot Camp? It's called Wasteland, clue number one. Useless on it's own.

It just so happens that there are these Vault-esque doors in the upper right area of the map. What number is on these doors? 13. :)

It may seem lame, but I stick to my thesis.
