Due to the trademark offices it became public knowledge which is why I'm willing to discuss it at all. Although I would like to have some candid (not public) conversations with you guys on this forum so I can make it a better game.
[...] Someone asked why I didn't consider Wasteland sooner:
I wanted to do Wasteland sooner but unfortunately EA would not let the trademark go even though they had no intention of using it themselves. But fortunately for trademark law you cannot sit on trademarks indefinitely without using them. So the mark expired
and then Konami grabbed it for their Yu-Gi-Oh series. And fortunately again, the people at Konami were friendly and decided they were not going to use the mark so they let me get it back.
[...]you will be happy to know that it will be very much an old school RPG that uses the skill systems, open ended nature of design, and puts the player into a world that is not black and white but shades of grey. This Wasteland will be darker in nature in the first one...
[...]I've read some really useful things out here from people who have articulated as to why they loved WL so much. I'm in alignment with 95% of what I've read. Post apocalyptic material is my favorite, I love the dark and bleak world to work with.
Thanks for all the input.....

So is it an original game or based on another license? I'm getting bored of all these franchise games and was hoping for something totally new.Saint_Proverbius wrote:Nope.Mad Max RW wrote:So we get Troika's mystery game (probably Gamma World), Fallout 3, and a new Wasteland. The sound of all the heads exploding is deafening.
Post Apocalyptic Games AKIMBO!!!!!!
I just got bit by this back ass wards concept, planet turned on it's head.
Maybe the MadMax4 Movie has been delayed so all the Post Apocalyptic games can catch up, then the pic will be rushed to a flaming self destructive fin'e'.
The Movie will probablly use the BGDA Engine for the computer generated stunts and fight scenes. Now that would be a strange twist of continuity.

Sounds good to me. Of course, the ultimate would be a full remake of wasteland (in the Fallout engine? Anyone good enough to try that in the editor?)
In other Fargo-related news, the Fargo special edition DVD was released yesterday. Rock on.

suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

That would be interesting, but I don't see how you could do it w/the FO editors. In Wasteland you had complete control over your people, including their generation and advancement. That's impossible to do w/the FO2 mapper.atoga wrote:Sounds good to me. Of course, the ultimate would be a full remake of wasteland (in the Fallout engine? You could probably get closer w/FoT,at least in respect to actually controlling your party, although the hiring of NPCs would be problematic since was one type of movement AI that wasn't implemented ("Follow").
I think if anything a project like that should be set in the same milieu as Wasteland, but not try to shoehorn the actual game into another format. Or perhaps the action could be moved into the same region as Wasteland, but present the FO univere's take on it. Basically what JJ86 did w/his "Quartz" map.

I've considered it, but as of right now I'm settling for mixing in a few select elements of Wasteland into my FoT work.atoga wrote:Care to try your hand at that OTB?
However, nothing I plan to do is ever cast in stone, nor delivered on time.
