www.historychannel.com has a lot of really good information and pics, but you should just watch the show if you have it. i suppose you could just do a yahoo, or google, or whatever search.

Edit: however if you are still a student, my best advice, pay attention in history class. unless they teach lies or something.

Thanks for the plug, JJ86, but I still haven't come across any decent sites on the net about WWII. The problem is that they're basically fan-sites, so they tend to be authored by people who think that Germans should have won WWII because they had cool hats, or people who wear red, white and blue underwear and think the US has never done made a mistake, let alone anything wrong. Polemic crap, most of it, and almost always presented w/o contextual information.

46+2, what sort of stuff are you looking for? Infantry, armor, artillery; Europe, North Africa or Asia? WWII is a huge topic, even if you're just looking to stick to the military aspects of it.

Here's a couple of links that aren't too bad:

Achtung, Panzer!

Red Steel (Soviet Armor)

Patton Museum, Ft. Knox, KY

Feldgrau.com (German Military, general)

I had others, but they seem to have moved and/or are unavailable.

Soldier87, stay away from the History Channel. It's not history, it's entertainment. Anything you see on there is either so basic you should be ashamed of yourself for not knowning, or it's tepid and/or outdated scholarship. Anytime you start hearing phrases like, "scholars believe" it's a good indication that what you're reading/watching is shit.

Oh, BTW, in case some of you didn't notice, I nuked the stupidty/nastiness that had poluted this thread.

Cheers,

OTB

You might want to try it again. I tried the link before posting it, like I did all the others. Quite a few of the sites I had book marked have been moved or simply don't exist any more. (Not enough pretty pictures, I guess. )

plus u can always ask the friendly and well informed
members of these forums

ww2 is an intrest of mine although i dont belive the nazis shouldve won

im a big fan of the red army and general zjukov
myself

ps.did u all know after the war they had a big parade with the red army and then the prisoners of war(ze germans) had tpo marsch by and behind them there were huge trucks that sprayed anti septic chemicals on the streets to clear them from the presence of germans..

now who did u call untermenschen?

i dont have anything against germans(only nazis)
and im not russial( my grandpa was half russian)

but that was pretty cool

ps.u all do know that war was already won by the russians, before D-day,right?

it was just a question of time

russian wouldve been in berlin by 1945,with or without the western front

most americans think that usa single handedly won ww2 by taking france back from germany

which the english and americans did with double the infantry,10 times as many tanks, arty and
thousands of aircraft against like 15 german planes ;)

I've got this lame SOSE assignment to do now and it's almost impossible to find anything about the war like weapons and vehicles. My teacher's the stupidest bitch. You could walk out of the classroom in the middle of class and she wouldn't notice. She's stoned half the time as well.

I doubt the Russians would have won the war if the German had all their armada to attack the USSR.

aaah but the germans didnt have an armada, they had a small navy and i dont think a few war ships wouldve made a huge diffrence, the germans main strenght was their army

which they did use to full effect on the russians

they russians just plain old flooded their loinees with men and equipment, the german armys back was already broken when the allied landed

dont take my word for it,go check out a few numbers, likes dates and stuff and ull know what i mean

although the carpet bombings of german factories and the western front was a huge help to the russians,it didnt start in a big scale until after the russian gained the initiative and t´hey were producing huge numbers of tanks n arty and pushing forward

by d-day teh germans were already fucked in a big way

Why Soviet Union was the only *real* winner of WW2? Read my lips: retreating of heavy industry behind Urals. Oh and scorched earth tactics.

Anyways, you should always remember to study about "the forgotten wars" as well, when you're reading about WWs.

Forgotten wars as the smaller fronts, smaller fights on smaller countries. They might've not been as glamorous, but they sure as hell were bloody and affected the big outcome.
