Duck and Cover

Ok I'm new to Fallout I just bought it about maybe 5 days ago.
I'm at the Glow right now and I have gotten the gold disc I need to
take back to the Brotherhood, but I have a MAJOR problem...
The problem is I had NO Rady-Away for Rad-X pills when I went there
and I only found 2 things of Rad-Away on 2 guards and 1 thing of Rad-X on another guard.
I have tried to get the elevator to work so I can go down to the other
floor and check if there is anything but I dont think my science skill is up high enough to get the computer to work.
I tried leaving the Glow a couples I would go about a 1/2-1 square and I would die.
So then I tried to take the pills and THEN the Rad-Away and rest until
healed...still died
Is there a way I can get away from there safely without dying?
Or do I have to start over? I dont really wanna start over...

One of the guards should have a key card that's used on the elevator, somewhere there's a Gieger Counter, use that and see what your rad count is, if it's over 100 you're most likely boned unless you work fast, if you aren't fast you're going to have to reload from your last save point abd pick yourself up some piss bags and RAD-X.

I think that the "gold" holodisk that you speak of is actually the key that you need to use on the elevator. (a holodisk is silver, and only silver)

Use the key on the elevator (you know, right click, backpack, select the key) this should allow you to access the lower levels. I know for a fact that one level contains a medical lab. **don't dawdle around, and don't do anything that would take time (ie, playing chess)

When you load your game (and start playing) pop 2 rad-x's right away. each rad-x gives you +50% radiation resistance, so if you take 2, your set for pretty much the whole time. (unless you rest or really waste time)

Rad-away usually removes 25 rads (i think...) so you may need a lot of those if you have absorbed a lot of rads (use the geiger counter to check)

one time I spent so much time in the glow that I had 1000+ rads running through me, died the instant I tried to walk off the map (had to restart though...)

Ok, so I want to use that gold disc I got from that big guard on the computer? and that should get the elevator to work?
So pretty much the basement is full of Radiation and crap, worse
then the top?
I will try what you guys said and if that dont work I guess
I will just have to restart...oh well thats not that far anyways
I could get back there within a day or so

No, not a computer, the door, use it on the door, that will unlock and turn off the electrical field so you don't fry your ass.

The whole base is full of radiation, that hole is from an atomic weapon hitting the facility, although all the radiation should be gone, it's been 80 years, radiation only hangs around for about 2 weeks. Could have been part of a communist plot to sap and impurify our natuarl bodily fluids.

2 weeks? are you sure about that?

Yup, the majority of the radiation is gone after 2 weeks, there is still some around but it's not as concentrated as before, unless there's a source of radiation at the Glow.
