Equilibrium Anyone?

Post by iohkus »

Anyone else seen this? I'm suprised it hasn't caught on with all the 10-15 year old matrix fans... I thought it was a lot better than the matrix... eventhough the entire plot and story was one big unbelievable contradiction

*spoiler*

...no feeling? then why the fuck does the black guy keep smiling?
...no art? then who the fuck designed all those oriental trench coats? or those fucking insane looking time pieces? or those white lexus'? or who designed the architecture in every fucking building in the city?

if you let yourself slip into a stupid drone like state for 2 hours you'll love the action and the futuristic bling bling and lame plot twists, but if you can't let go of common sense for a couple hours then chances are you won't like the movie...

overall a good mindless action flick, whole lot better acting than matrix eventhough the lead character was a highly improved version of neo and a way better actor

I saw it when it first came out on DVD. Highly suggested for anyone who likes Orwell. As for those weird plot holes; maybe they should have said it supresses creativity or something? Or maybe a certain set of emotions. Its been awhile since I saw the film so theres probably some weird explanation to it. Still, overall a good film and much better then the matrix, and it didn't even need 2 sequals.

It was more 1984 and Fahrenheit 451 with the Matrix. I thought it was a fun movie, mindless killing and all that, but I don't really expect much from movies, if I want to think I'll read a book, movies are eye candy.

I saw it, and I thought it was about on the same level of the Matrix. However; the special effects and cinematography were both horrible, the lead actor was worse than Keanu, and the explanation for why the guy has uber skills was lame (he's a master of mathematical trajectories or something). The action was pretty good, though.

Oh, and the plot was horrible.

yeah, movies do suck

cinema is so much better D:

all good films make you think, they present you with a setting and not always a clear story and make you interpret the visuals the way YOU want to

good cinema shows you the setting and story leaving you to think

good books tells you the setting and story

movies tell you everything through dialogue and show you everything, leaving nothing to the imagination because everythings constantly being explained to death either visually or through interaction

and atoga, how was keanau a better actor than this guy?

Well, Keanu fit to the role pretty well in the Matrix. The guy in Equilibrium didn't. It's as simple as that. He's not a shitty actor, I just didn't think he fit into the movie too well.

Equilibrium was pretty cool and stuff, but they got the ending all wrong. It should have been the exact opposite.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

Reason for the crappiness thruout the film: studio was working on it right after Matrix came out. Got word Matrix Sequels were in the works. Bam. Funding cut b/c it was too matrix-esque. So Director had to work with what money he had left.

Otherwise, it would have been more high-tech and not so mid-90's-ish.

Movies that try to be biblical, as a rule, suck. There are exceptions, but for the most part these movies just use religious themes as an excuse for not developing an original plot.

Yes. Uh huh. Took you long enough. Go and find "City of Lost Children" and "Dark City" if you have a chance.

What would Boondock Saints go under?

I'm thinking about watching it, but I'm reluctant, as I'm probably going to have to pay some money. It's not at the library.

One word: The Signs.
Watch it, really terrific movie about naked aliens and God beating them up with a baseball bat and contacting Kevin Costner's momma... truly a masterpiece

Equilibrium is a fucking great beer drinking with mates pre going film.

I always thought the black guy wasnt on the anti-emotion shit from the start, as i guess were a lot of people in the upper echelons of power, in order to lure the bloke in to the trap of uncovering the resistance.

Yeah it was a good movie. Too bad the most expensive actor died after, like 5 minutes in the movie.

... And that guy, haha, I loved him in American Psycho.

It does suck. Christian Bale is a pretty good actor and he was badass in American Psycho but he didn't fit in Equilibirum. And Branagh died in the first minutes, and the special effects was plain shit.

The first time I watched it I was high as heaven so me and my friend liked it, then I watched it again and I was like : wtf are those crappy gun fights, they look so cheap!

Drugs covered the low budget.

+ the story is full of holes!

I've seen neither Equilibrium nor American Psycho, so I don't have an opinion either way. (But if the "crappy gunfights" sauron mentioned are anything like they were in Desperado...)

Lately I've discovered -- or been subjected to? -- something very odd. The "part talkies" of '29. It's very odd to watch a movie that alternates between silent w/intertitles and vitaphone sound. Very odd, indeed. Thankfully those were just a stop-gap measure before the "all-talkies" came on the scene in '30.

OTB should watch Eraserhead,

it reminded me of a part talkie with music, except the music was replaced mostly by industrial sounds of the setting and enviornment. the atmostphere is like an old school BW french movie except all freaked out and shit thanks to lynch

really bizarro 1977 david lynch cult classic

Yeah I wanna see Eraserhead.
I wanna see Begotten too. Starts off with God disemboweling himself, how could that not be sweet?

Oh well, it'll probably be shit, but I owe it to myself to watch anyway.
