Overrated Movies
Pulp Fiction. I wanted to love PF as much as seemingly everyone else on earth did, but I just didn't. I liked it well enough. I can see why it lit the world on fire back in 1994, but the problem is that PF has been so ripped off and imitated by other directors and movies that seeing the one that started it all elicits a sort of "blah" feeling from me. Not only that, but it seriously drags in the middle. For pure cinematic joy and energy, I'd say Kill Bill trumps it.
The Godfather. I don't get it. I don't get what all the fuss is about.
The Lord of the Rings. Ditto. Good entertainment, but ass-numbing and laden with too many poetic speeches. Not to mention the exposition.

No way. PF is still great. The fact that other movies try to rip it off (and badly) just makes it better in comparison. Can you name a good PF knockoff? In my mind that just makes the movie better. It drags a bit in the middle (with the first part of Butch's story) but since the movie is two and a half hours long, and the rest is pretty intense, a slow part in the plot is much needed.
As for LOTR, it's pure unadulterated fanboy shit.
Other overrated stuff: Any best picture-winner in the past five or so years; pretty much anything by Steven Spielberg; The Matrix series. That's just the tip of the iceberg; I could name a million lousy, overrated movies but I'd rather not.

suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

I thought Dune was okay too, there's supposed to be a 8 hour uncut version of it out there, very rare though.
I would like to add Pearl Harbor and Enemy at the Gates. The best part of Pearl Harbor was when that douche Affleck gets wasted by the Japanese, one of the best things to come out of World War 2 if you ask me. The best part about Enemy at the Gates was seeing Rachel Weisz's ass in that awkward sex scene. Nothing like seeing a couple filthy communists humping in a crowded tunnel filled with people who smell like wet yak. Hmm, bonerfying.

George Bush lowered taxes so the Jews could kill Michael Moore.

You know, I've avoided this film largely because it's based on a bullshit story. But I confess that bit about R. Perlman (the self-described "world's first Jewish caveman") playing a toothless Soviet is rather intriguing. The Gaijin wrote:I liked Enemy at the Gates, if only because Ron Perlman played a toothless Soviet.
Edit: My take on "overrated films" is mostly whatever the media is buzzing about at the moment. It's a large reason I quit going to theatres to watch new releases. Much better to sit down after the hype has died down and you can relax and take something in on your own, hopefully w/o remembering any spoiling info you've come across by that time.

meh Pulp Fiction is overrated because when you watch it more than twice you wish you could strap explosives to your disk/tape and blow it to hell. i cant sit through some stupid bitch oding on sniffin heroin and think "damn that was action packed" just like i can use that statement related to butch and zed. shit was there anything remotely related to a good action sequence in pulp fiction?

Maybe it's because....IT'S NOT AN ACTION MOVIE YOU IDIOT!!!! PF is about the dialogs and the story. Not the action...but the hillarity of things happening. Ohw, and about the dialogs of course... The humor is great stuff in PF...did i mention dialogs? PF is great, I love it.Mandalorian FaLLouT GoD wrote:meh Pulp Fiction is overrated because when you watch it more than twice you wish you could strap explosives to your disk/tape and blow it to hell. i cant sit through some stupid bitch oding on sniffin heroin and think "damn that was action packed" just like i can use that statement related to butch and zed. shit was there anything remotely related to a good action sequence in pulp fiction?
Matrix 2&3 are definitly overrated...I think they rather suck...the original still kicks ass...
