What happend to DVD games?

Post by requiem_for_a_starfury »

Just got a couple of games for my Birthday, both have multiple CDs in DVD packaging. The annoying thing is that both games have all the CDs on the one spindle and getting them off with out snapping them has (so far) proved more of a challenge than playing the games. :( So what happened to companies releasing games on DVDs? I know they did with Balders Gate but I don't think there have been many other DVD games, anyone know why? With virtually all new machines having DVD drives it'd be better than having 2 or 3 CDs.

I think they're still aiming "towards the bigger market". Funny, because all the new games still require a machine that's processor GHz begins with a number larger than 2... You'd think someone with such hardware has DVD-ROM already.

Excuse me if I'm wrong, but I think they ported Jagged Alliance II and it's expansions on DVD once. Same with one of the Commando games.

Alot of people thought that they would pickup, much like CD ROMs, I guess they haven't.

DVD drives aren't as fast as CD drives, so that's probably why they're not so popular for gaming.

I know UT2004 is being released in a special edition DVD.

I've got Myth III and Riven on DVD...Never opened them..They just came with the drive, I think....Not really sure...

I've got Encyclopedia Brittanica 1997 on DVD...And Mayo Clinic 1997 on DVD, too.
