I saw the picture on the front page? Something about Steel city in some BIS Mod? What exactly is it?

Dunno check Supermutant.de but keep your english-german dictionary handy.

Could they be trying to use some ideas they had for Fallout 3? By the way the link seems to be broken.

That looks like a pretty cool mod idea. OTB translated the page..I'm glad, my German is really quite rusty, and I lost a lot in my own translation.

Thanks for that, OTB.

Anyone notice a release date, or anything for this? The screen shots look pretty good, so I assume they're fairly far along...At least with the visual experience..Not sure about the dialogue...

Also...Gambling in Vault City? Wha?

Where did you see that?

Lynnette would castrate you if you tried to gamble in VC.

One of the screen shots of Vault City is of a casino with those big armed guard guys in zoot suits.

Some of the stuff doesn't seem realistic. Particularly playing, yet again, as the hero from FO2. He/she would be powerful since the last game. And the minimum age would be 26. I may have misunderstood though. Maybe they meant a "new" vault dweller? Also, if im not mistaken, they did say vault dweller instead of "chosen one"?

Odd, but it'd be cool regardless of how hokey the storyline might be :)

The western Brotherhood also isn't quit so aggressive about such things. Eastern side maybe, but not the western BOS.

I noticed the "Vault Dweller" as well. I dunno.

I think this will be a damn fine mod when it comes out..I'll just have to refresh my German. Was it mentioned anywhere that there would be an English translation?

Sho' 'nuff, here it is.

Very brazier. I guess the Ghouls linking up w/VC has led to some pretty radical changes...

Good question. I've never played either game in German, so I have no idea what the Chosen One was called in that version of the game. When I did the x-lation all I did was to look at their German description of it, then whipped it out w/o talking to them about it.
Extreme Drinker wrote:Was it mentioned anywhere that there would be an English translation?
I don't know. They put out an English trailer, so maybe they have someone to do x-lations now. X-lating a game like that would be a pain in the ass, worse then x-lating literature. :shudder: If they do have someone to do x-lations hopefully it will be someone who's played the game in English. Otherwise the results could be...interesting.

Why do you keep using an x? That's very frustrating to read.

"X" is the abbreviation for "trans".

Do you also get frustrated by "w/" for "with" and "w/o" for "without"? If that's the case, my only defense is that these are std. abbreviations, not some i33+ 5p34k crap.

Yeah, I know what it means, OTB, but it was just bugging me for some reason. No, I don't get frustrated with w/ and w/o abbreviations. I don't know why.

Ah, you were suffering that very common DaC malady of general grumpiness and widespread irritability.

Maybe... Or maybe you used xlated or some variation of the word so many times in a single post that it just seemed kind of wooden. That, combined with the fact that the abbrieviation was unnecessary to begin with, was enough to push me over the edge. If you get a package from me in the mail, it's candy. Open it as soon as you're alone with it.

Kharn, is that you? No, please don't set the NMA filters to not allow "X-ian"!!!

Oh goody! Will the amazon.com guy...er...I mean the UPS guy bring it? Or will it be the bill deliverer...er...I mean the USPS guy?

Also, while they may be standart abbreviations, they are still abbreviations. It's not that it bothers me that much, but why not just write the complete word?
A lot of times when people argue about leet speak, one of the points they bring up is the fact you have time to write complete words, I see no reason for this thought not to be true in other cases as well.

Ok, that was a useless paragraph... :)

P.S. This needs to go to the right forum.
MOVED.

Xlation is a strangely erotic word.

And... I'm sorry, I try not to criticize mods without playing them, mainly for the PR purpose that I can say "Well you haven't played mine" without anyone calling bullshit and shooting me to hell...

But this mod looks awful.

I see no way for said changes to be justified, and I've made some radical changes myself. In my opinion reusing the same setting is a terrible idea. Every mod out, Mutants Rising, Fallout Europe, they all have a unique setting which allows them a certain amount of freedom to tinker with factions, and still lead us to believe the faction at home is largley the one we remember with natural gradual evolutionary changes. On top of that, moving gambling into Vault City is replacing one thing done right about Fallout 2, fanaticism with elitism and caste based oppression, with one thing done terribly wrong, the over emphasis on drugs whores and slot machines that was the map of New Reno and all it's branching storylines. The Brotherhood taking over San Francisco is just... argh.

In any case, I am getting the feeling with the insane plot twists, use of the name Black Isle Mod, and the offical Fallout 3 logo slapped on there, that is some kind of elaborate practical joke meant to rub salt into the wounds of both the Black Isle staff and the Fallout community in general. That would be horrible.

But would it be worse, if it weren't a joke?

the gambling in VC is very justified.. after all that was a major plot in the game.. the attempted coercion from NewReno for VC to join them to fight off the raiders..

although after finding and reading the translation for the plot... it never mentions that one of the families took over VC... so in that context it IS out of place..

Perhaps, but it never would have worked, though I suppose it is remotely possible.

By the way... are you involved with this mod at all?

Edit: If there is a translation online, I'd like to gander over it, as my criticisms may be unjustified on account of my not knowing the language.
