Redundant Foes

Im just curious. Is anyone going to care much if you end up fighting hundreds of the same type of character, that has the same inventory and looks, like in Fallout 1 and 2?

I know its going to happen sooner or later with random encounters. And I can't possibly make individual enemy types for every possible random encounter the player might have. I could certainly vary it, but I just don't think its necessary. Besides, I thought the generic raiders, robbers, etc.. in the earlier FO games were more fun to run into in the desert than the raiders in FOT (of course that is probably mostly due to more exp, goodies, etc.. than you'll ever get from them in FOT)

Im thinking of making a bunch of different generic guys for encounters and for populating places that seem a little too empty or need spicing up. Anyone besides me miss the old 10mm pistol raider, the hunting rifle female raider, the 10mm smg robber, etc..?

Well I think that if you have the possibility to have different looking enemies (colour of hair, skin and clothes) you should not waste it.
I dont mean that you should always make a unique entity for all enemys,
but rather having templates for example the 10mm pistol raider, the hunting rifle female raider and the 10mm smg robber.
And after placing them you could change few details like the colours I mentioned so that it doesnt look like that they are just clones.

Doesnt the random encounter enemies have a random colour?
I remember that I finded funny that the mutants in RE's were in many different colours.

Yeah it does for the mutants and ghouls, though I'm not sure about the other races.

It was somewhat hilarious to watch a pink super mutant running toward your sguad with a SAW. :lol:

Yeah I noticed that. Are the random encounter actors always randomly colored or is this something scripted?

As for the placed actors, I might have their skin color and/or hair color vary. Clothing sometimes. But the robbers will tend to have black leather.

Its mostly something for random encounters, so I doubt having any control over it anyway :)

Well the mutants are always randomly coloured, so I'd assume the same for the other races. There's certainly no triggers that would handle that.
