With good repair skill, you can repair the emitter next to each forcefield and disable them that way. Or if you have explosives, you can blow them away.

So it seems

Maybe you learn now that never trust a mutant.

if you get your ass kicked and end upp in the mutant military base prison, first of all, try repair... try try try... it will work eventually... there is a locker in the guard room a bit northwest... there are some mutants there... if you can kill them or lure them out, you will find all your stuff you lost when you where captured in that locker.

Good luck mate!

Apparently you don't have all 10 of your save slots filled up.
I save alot. Saving is a good thing.
Especially since i have a good deal of difficultly putting my cursor on teh enemy that is right next to Ian.

I think the skills in the skilldex are automatically activated by the numbers above the keys.
The top of the list is 1.
Next is 2.
Next is 3.
I hope you get the picture.

I think he means that you should save in DIFFERENT SLOTS often, so if thi kind happens, you won't fall far back.

Personally, I use only two slots. One is the pri. save slot and the other is the backup.

My pc once tilted while quicksaving, ruining my only savegame and I had to start from the beginning again. Then I thought that more save slots in use would prevent this kind of accidents.
Lazy me, I ended up using two slots, and the backup is normally like half game behind the pri. save.. So pretty useles after all...

If you used all 10 of your save slots (like me) you probably wouldn't have this problem.

It's easy to use a skilldex skill quickly without actually clicking on the skilldex button. Just use a number. Repair's number is 8.

So...
Press 8, click on item to be repaired, then press 8, click on item to be repaired. Keep doing this until it fixes.

This also works with all other skilldex skills.
The top of the list is 1 and goes down to 8.

This is extremely effective if your skills are lacking.

I save every time I enter a town in a new slot. Then I have one slot (#1) for quicksaves. This means that if I screw up, I can always reload at the beginning of that area.

Personally, I use all ten slots. Three quick save slots, so that every time I even just get a quest or am about to enter an important conversation, I can save. Save number one, then two, the three, then one then two then three... Ect.

Two slots I use when entering a town and the other when I leave.

The rest of the slots go to special encounters. When I run out, I quit, cut the save game out of the file and put it into an encounter file.

Is it a key you presss that auto-saves?
(Like Baldur's Gate.)

Quicksave button is F6 in Fallouts.

It saves your game without the need of specifying the slot once you've first time done it. Then it jsut saves to that slot every time you press F6.

After reading the Fallout manual (it's on the cd) I always used all 10 slots. It's really worth the problem/time to do it.

I think the 10 slots are not enough if you're playing multiple games. At least for me. My 10 slots get used very quickly. I don't quicksave though.

saving in different slots is EXTEMELY good.

bah! in fo2, i had killed everyone in every town up until Sanfran (using 1 slot)

and after joining the hubolojists, and killing badgar and the computer, i was unable to finish the game.... just if i had used more save slots!

(the shi computer is the only way to get fuel, no comp, no fuel!)

No. If you're playing a character with INT 3 or less you can get the BOS to prepare the tanker for ya.

Screw using all 10 slots. I use 1 and if I screw up and die, then its over. I only save in between sessions, which is a bitch sometimes when you really screw up.

If you wanna go hardcore, then do that. :P

But save slots have many purposes, saving your current game (a couple different slots in case you fuck up), slots for different characters/previous playthroughs. I also use a couple saves in places I sometimes need to check some things, important dialogue etc(Enclave, Vault City, SAD...).
