Hey Ya'll,

Does anyone know how to make Custom Perks ? I know I can make the image and edit the name from another perk but is there any way of adding a new perk... I've seen in the editor that there are a few empty perk slots available... just don't know which files to edit...

If im not mistaken I asked the same question a few months (or years?) ago. The answer is likely still the same, "No".

But perhaps, hopefully, someone might have come up with a way of editing them since that time?

Hmm.. I guess not. But most perks just alter character stats anyway. Which can be done with drugs, etc.. I consider the standard perks just that, standard. They're not that great and they can give the player a little bit of an edge if needed so I don't really see a big need to change them (although I have messed with the names/descriptions for campaign sensibility).

Have you considered having permanent, stat enhancing nanotech or such in your campaign? The more useful, the more expensive. Basically a weaker, but more permanent drug. You could even limit these somehow by reducing a certain character stat each time one is used. Preferably their maximum life points, which would make the most sense.

With this in consideration, the only important perks are stuff like Flexible and Tunnel Rat, which directly alter the character's animated speed in ways that can not be done by editing the stats. Faster ROF and HTH attacks are both good too, for CTB because characters with these will be able to attack sooner after their AP run out. Not so important for turn based, since more AP will do the same job. There are a few more unique ones, like glowing one and night vision. But they're not as useful. Although glowing one works wonders when placed on enemy units. Especially when combined with a radiation attack.

I agree...

I might just edit the Fun Perks that actually don't have any function. The reason I wish to add perks is that I like to make them more personal. Perks can be used to point out personality and characteristics.

I have a prefab character with the perk "Hide Of Scars", it's fuction isn't the reason why I gave it to him. The perk tells that the character is held back, scared and his background info add's that he was attacked bu mutants... So his personality is basicly linked to the perk...

I wish to make characters more part of the story. I like to bring out the characters background and give them more frequent roles.

The perks I wish to add are just more a story / background issue then a real add-on to the character.

They don't have to have a fuction. But I might start editing Non-fuction perks.

Can you list out a few perks that don't do anything ?

I know "Twitch Gamer" perk but I don't know any other perks that have none.

Advice: don't be overtly zealous and want to do too much. Open maps of Max-V, Endocore, OTB and JJ86. Chances are if they haven't done something, there isn't a way to do it. I remember wanting to change character sprites to make a functional Vault Dweller in the past.

Yeah... so it's all on name changes and image changes I'd have to go for ?

It's pretty frustrating when you CANT do something that you want...

Greetz,

Thansk for the help

Perks that probably don't do anything:

Kama Sutra Master
(Explorer, or any other exploration type perk, has little to no use in FOT anyway).
Bonus Movement (useless in CTB)

Divine Favor is a good one to mess with. It just increases the highest stat and reduces your perk rate by one (from 3 to 2 if human). So you could slap that on any character and name it whatever you want. Requires 8 charisma so its doubtful many players would get it as a perk choice anyway.

You can also change some perks like Mutate. Which is wrong anyway. I prefer "Hardened by the Elements". The player almost always uses Mutate to exchange a lesser trait for a better one such as kamikaze, fast shot, or gifted. Its an improvement to an experienced character (level 9 as it were) so Hardened by the Elements is an excellent fit.

You can also toy with the racial perks like Tough Hide, (bonsai tree?) and Death Sense. There are also a lot of useless traits that you can edit and slap on a character. If you don't want the player to change any of the traits then you can start them out with mutate already chosen.

Hey Man,

Thanks, this is useful... I'm thinking about a few, just have to see if I can change some perk images, to give it a new look or something, don't know if it will work cause I want it with the pipboy images and I don't know how to make them myself, since I'm not that good at making my own graphics, most of the time I edit them, nothing more...

So I'll see what I can use and what I can do with !

Thanks !
