What does that mean???

Discuss the game that started it all, and its sequel. Technical questions and issues go into the Fallout Technical Support forum, not here.

What does that mean???

Post by Pumper »

One question I ask myself for so long now is why are there so many allusions of the 50' or 60' years in Fallout!??

I mean in the Intro of Fallout 1 you can see these people in the Vault on the poster or in general you can see 50's posters in the game of FO 1 and 2.Then the music, "Maybe" or" A kiss to build a dream on" and so on.What does that stuff indicate??

Nobody could give me an answer about that till now.I hope you can help me.

BTW:Sorry for my bad english... :eyebrow:

That's like asking why there's so many references to aliens and spaceships in Starcraft. It's just the setting for the freaking game.

Because Interplay isn't the most financially stable of companys.

They originally wanted to set Fallout in the 70s, but alas, Disco-era art is more highly collectable and thus more expensive.

If it helps, I believe there is a patch out that replaces all the in-game and menu music with the soundtrack from the movie Stayin Alive, and I believe that someone was working on a Pimp Cane and Afro mod, but I'm not sure if it was ever finished.

Haha. That about sums it up. It is a game set in a retro 50's style future world, thus we have 50's music and decorations. Just like you see thongs and asscrack in FOBOS to represent the decay of a once proud company.
off topic? OMG YOU'VE BEEN CENSORED... yet you're still posting. MYSTARY!!!!

because World War Three happened in a "retro 50's style future world" as has been said before...

meaning the ideas of what the future would be like from the 50's actually happened...

It's what's known as a "retro future". Since the '50s was when all things atomic were born, Fallout is a '50s idealization of the future. It is how people in the '50s would imagine what the year 2077 would be like, with a dose of good ol' atomic horror thrown in. Really, it's just as legitimate as our view of the future now (most people believe in a computer dominated, cyberpunk-esque thing, but who knows what the hell the world will be like come 2077.)
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

Here, I'll make it real simple for you. Some time after WW2, in the mid to late 50's the timeline split from what we know into the Fallout universe. So up until December 31st 1959 everything we know happened, look in a history book and whatever there is also in the Fallout world, but on January 1st 1960 it switched over to the Fallout universe, and next to everything that was promised by the 1950's happened. Everything has that Jetsons look to it, cars have fins, people own personal robots and whatnot. It's a glorious time! Then of course in 2077 someone let fly with the nukes and brought the good times to an end, a white hot, melty end. And that children, is the shortened version of why everything looks like Eisenhower's version America got shit on.
George Bush lowered taxes so the Jews could kill Michael Moore.
